| Does anyone know if you can get sometype of heated cover for the motor.
I have an 2002 150 Merc EFI and once it gets down below 35 degrees and sits all night at the dock, it takes so long to get it running and if it's a cold 20 degree night I have to wait tell it warms up during the day but then I am missing fishing time.
Any sugestions?

Location: Birchwood, WI | With a aluminum block and no oil sump would be hard to do with a standard block heater I think. Possibly a trouble light under the cowling? Might help to make sure your TPS is set correctly. Running a good fuel stabilzer might help with the starting issues to. Have not heard of the Merc EFI having problems with cold. |

If I owned an Opti motor I'd replace the t-stats every year. |

Close...but that would that would be Inspect (or test) 'stats as an annual maint item...not replace.  |

Location: Cave Run Lake KY. | MSKY3 has it right, - - Buy a SUZUKI - - I kept my glass 171 HYDRA--SPORTS boat with my DF140 4Cl at long Bow Marinu on Cave Run lake for 5 years and it would freeze up solid with 2" of ice every year for at least 2 weeks. I whould go down there and run the motor about 3 times a week just to make sure batterys were OK . The motor started right up as soon as I turned the key, I could then run the motor in forward and reverse and melt the ice out around boat and 20 ft out the back. Marv. |

Location: Rhinelander. | I bought an electric battery blanket. I wrap the lower unit and plug it in and have never had a problem. Not the area you maybe looking at but keeps my lower unit from damage as my boat stays out well into Nov. Seafoam is great stuff!

| WOW this is quite the string. We run four rigs, all run deep into November in Minnesota. I normally get the glass rigs put away just before total freeze up. All of them have Merc's except the one that doesn't start in the cold. I do use Seafoam & stabil come put away time. There's got to be something else going on other than temperature issues. I always buy non -oxygenated fuel also. |
