Location: Rhinelander. | How many 57 inchers do we know of that have been caught?I'll let you you know wh I ask this after I I make a visit to one of my customers homes. Just wondering how many truely confirmed 57's have been caught.

Location: Minnesota | I know two guys personally that have one each (both in MN lakes). I also have a customer/guide up on Georgian Bay that has a few 57" under his belt. To bad they were not with one of my lures! lol He has also told me he has seen some near or over 60". I have a hard enough time telling if they are 30" or 40" in the water  |

Location: Rhinelander. | I am with you and really do not have a clue. I think its a pretty rare fish.. Thats why I was surprised when a customer told me he has one on the wall. Said he caught it 1988 on planting ground lake on the 3 lakes chain. He remembers it very clearly inspite of his age. Caught it on a mudpuppy. I am going to stop at his houe and get a photo of him with it. It amazes me that even in 88 one could catch a fish like that and you'd not hear about it.. When I get the pictures I'll post it. I think we all like seeing 57's

Location: University of Hartford | I am not sure about that, I know that in some lakes there is a "good" chance of seeing one like for instance Lac seul, Georgian Bay, the St. Lawrence and LOTW and Eagle, and Minnesota. I have seen one that I know was larger than 56. because it so much larger than my PB. But until they are caught and accurately measured they are just memories and stories, |

| Are you talking "real" 57's", measured on a bump board for an accurate measurement, or the number of 57's that were measured with a loose tape, my making marks in the boat and measuring it later, etc..?

Oh yes that marking thing! I think I have caught a couple of those! I am pretty sure my marks are accurate, of course my memory might have faded as to which fish went with which set of marks and where I started measuring from, but the other day I looked at a couple scratches in my boat and BY DAWG, they were 57.5" apart. Heckuva fish.
Seriously, why not ask some of these guides that are on the water day after day how frequently they have encountered that size fish. I'm thinking Doug Johnson could give a lot of fisherman some insight into how rare a 57" fish might be, even in the top quality waters available. |

Location: Minnesota | The three guys I know of have never posted on any chat boards. Pictures of all three fish have made it to various chat boards thoguh. They just seem to enjoy fishing and catching musky and pike. I know two of them will never bother posting pictures of their fish on boards to share becasue of comments like teh "Guest". Again, they are just happy to be alive and fish for musky and pike.

Location: Pewaukee, Wisconsin | People would not believe it if they knew how many fish are caught and released that big and bigger every year. There was a 60 plus incher caught and released weeks after I caught my 57. That fish was not on the internet either. Yes they are caught and not ever talked about. I never posted a picture of mine or told the story on line for over five years out of respect for the "Boys" out East.
The people who catch them know what they caught, the internet only hurts them and the guides who take them. The guides and fishermen who target these monsters do not need the hype. Word of mouth is how great guides keep their dance cards full.
Anyone who is looking for that special fish should look into getting on thses "special waters" that were listed before in a post. We all know the trophy waters that hold monster fish. Now you got to get there at the rite time and put your time in. It's not easy most of the time and it's not a numbers game. Your fishing for one fish a day sometimes.
Trophy hunters are a different breed as are the guides who consistantly put huge fish in their boat. Getting to fish with these people is a privilege. Getting a time slot at trophy time is almost impossible. Most are booked from years ago and those clients will not give it up. You just have to get lucky and work your way into prime time on prime waters.

| i've personaly seen 10 fish of that size or bigger in the last three years and boated one of them. i'm sure there's many of them noone hears about.

| 57" is really big fish.. i wld love to see more pictures of them but too bad some people r moron and or jealous of them.. in my books any fish over 55" are the great catch of their lifetime.. if that 57" smashed my bait during figure 8 i wld shat my pant n have a heart attack at young age! |

Location: Rhinelander. | Ty for that info jim. I am talking about a fish from 1988. They did not use bump boards back them. I do not know how it was measured. I just know he told me it was 57 and he got it mounted. Now I don't care if it was this year or 1988 its still a big fish and he has it to prove it. We'll see when I get to his house. I brought up the question because because I just feel its a rare fish, very rare to catch one that size. For all these 57's seen!!!!!!!!!!!! Untill they are in the boat and measured it means nothing. Follows don't count for beans.

| There are at least 3 57+ fish in Muskiefirsts big fish pics from 2008 alone. They aren't common, but are more common than one may think. |

57 incher measured like Bob M and a legit 57 on a bump board is completely different. Measuring one with a sewing tape at 57 is completely different that a 57 on a bump board.
There is only one way to get a real, true, legit measurement. |

It would be interesting to do that, then put a flexible sewing tape on it. I know since it's stiff it would probably read a little less on a bumpboard, but still would be interesting to see. |

Location: Rhinelander. | I think that I can get a good measurement with a metal rule. So no I won't take a bumpboard as you asked. The fish will have a bend in it I'm sure so a bumpboard be useless. I'll do the best I can and thats all I can do.
