Hi,
How does this work? Do you record every boring minute then edit out the no action time or do you activate recording once you hook up?

The video would be boring if you turned it on after you hook up... I turn mine off every 15-30 minutes and I turn it off after a catch or something I want to save, this gives me reference points to go back and quickly edit..it doesn’t take much time or effort to delete what you don’t want imo

It has a looping mode where you can set it to only keep the last 5 minutes of footage. So you continuously record until something significant happened, then you simply stop the recording and start another 5 minute loop. What it actually does is save five 1 minute segments for each loop so at the end of the day you have a bunch of individual files and you usually only need to keep the last couple of files per loop. Time between hook up and in the net is rarely over a minute.

This way you don't have a 10GB file for 1 follow and you really don't have to do much editing, if any at all.

Just turn your camera on/off after a couple minutes between a cast. You will easily be able to tell when something happened by quickly going through your vids.

You are going to want at least a 32gb card....I recommend getting as big as you can so you aren't busy switching chips all the time. Enjoy.

So now that GoPro completely bungled their editing software by removing it as an option, what do you use? I'm not referring to GoPro Quick, either. I was using their editing software last year, had it on my computer, then had the computer reimaged and lost that software. I went to reload it and it was gone from their website and no plans to bring it back!

Thanks,
Steve

Use the loop record feature. There are some pretty decent not-too-expensive editing programs out there, AVS4You is one.

The loop mode in a 5 minute setting seems to make the most sense. Smart program option there. Thanks.

I was really bummed to see the GoPro software gone too. It wasn't good by any stretch and frequently crashed but it was easy to learn and was free. I'm lucky to have access to a license for Adobe Premiere through work but it's crazy expensive otherwise. There are lots of free options but all of the ones I tried were overly complex or missing a specific feature.

VLC has a cool "record" feature that allows you to shorten videos really easily and I think you can capture slow-mo this way too.

We did a few podcasts on this. The first was our Slobland one where they talk extensively about the best A/V options and yes one is setting a loop cycle for your gopro.

What happens when the footage you want starts at the end of the 5 minute loop. Say at the 4:45 mark. Do you lose that 15 seconds when it starts over?

No, you don't lose footage. A five minute loop is made of five individual 1 minute files. When a 6th 1 minute file completes the oldest 1 minute file gets deleted. So you always have the last 5 minutes plus change.

I thinking you can dump the file(s) into iMovie for editing??
