Solid tone, no beeps. Was out testing the boat out today, did some putting around the lake loooking for walleye spots. Then ran it up to plane and opened it up and it ran fine. Backed down and on came the alarm. Shut the motor off as to not blow my ear drums. Turned it back on after a few seconds and alarm came back on. Shut it back down, decided to add oil (should have done this prior to hitting the water). Fired back on and alarm was off. Putted around for a bit and then went back up on plane. No problems getting there, came back downand it took it a minute but alarm came back on, went on for a bit then shut off while the motor remained running. At this point I just put it on the trailer.

It's an 06 or 07 Optimax 90 tiller. Strong steam of water, old men everywhere are jealous of its stream. When adding oil it was clearly low, took almost the full gallon I carry.

Some suggestions I've had are air in the oil line, clogged oil filter, or water in the gas. Any other thoughts?

Purge the on engine oil reservoir. Take off the cowl, start the motor, crack the cap open a bit and the very second oil starts coming out. It will, cap her down tight. Wrap a large rag around the oil fill before starting the process. Make sure the big oil tank is full, and go fishing.

Only have an on engine oil tank, does that make a difference?

Hi Mike,

I think that is what Steve Worrall is referring to. I've heard of this before too, and the process to purge as mentioned is spot on...

Tried that process with zero success. Can't get oil to come out the top.

it should literally pour out of the top when engine is running.

Update: overheat alarm, poppit valve was full of rust or something and wasn't functioning. New thermostat, poppit valve and a cooling system flush and hopefully I'll get the boat back tomorrow.

Do you have smart guages? They are nice, i always keep one of them on the motor temp at all times.

No, don't think I actually overheated it just recognized that water wasn't flowing into the cooling system properly, which triggered the alarm.
