Are you referring to the small plastic blocks in the centrifugal casting brake? usually 2 or 6 of them

Centrifugal Brakes
Older Reels has 2
Newer Reels has 6
As the spool spins faster the brakes will control the spool speed keeping it from over runs.

there you go pike.believe it or not ive asked to a guy from abu parts exactly the same question , he said that he have to see the reel. my reel is doing exactly what you just describe. when i stop reeling the spool continue to spin and i don't have a single brake so i think we have the no1 suspect here

That is normal, brand new reels out of the box will continue to spin the spool when the handle is stopped suddenly. Once line and lure are attached it will never happen in a real fishing situation. Nothing to be worried about and the plastic centrifugal brakes have zero to do with it.

it's a 20 years hod reel ,so these parts are strictly about casting ? so these parts are not that important ? that how mine look https://www.google.com/search?q=plastic+centrifugal+brakes&#...

Yes, all good. When you begin your retrieve after a cast the spool is obviously going the other direction immediately. So again, in a real fishing situation this will never occur. It is completely normal and something you've just never noticed in the past but has always been that way. No part wear or failure is causing what you speak of.

I'd chalk that up to Shimano simply being higher quality in about every aspect, at least in my experiences. Don't get me wrong, I own plenty of Abu reels but they typically require service much more often. The positive side of that is Abus are easier to work on.

for sure. i think there is less than 15 parts inside a 6500.really fun to clean and lube.i think the round reels of abu have not made a single major upgrade since at least 15 years.they almost all look the same internally speaking ,just a bunch of different name and paint job.but i still loving them,i think it's more about nostalgia instead of their performance.

The brake blocks are forced outwards (when the spool is spinning) on the posts which puts pressure on the raceway slowing the spool down. There are 3 different weights of them. White are the heaviest, black are the mid-weight and the blue are the lightest. If you are proficient at casting you can take them off as well. If you keep them on and disassemble/reassemble the reel make sure the blocks are slid toward the center of the spool - if they are slid outward and you try to reassemble the reel you will crush the blocks and your reel handle will not turn or will turn very hard. Also something to keep in mind if there is grease or oil in this area it will reduce the efficiency of the reel.
