So if you go out with a guide/trolling
he goes to a location
chooses lures
sets rods
drives a course
gets a strike
hands you the rod to wind the sting
he nets the fish
WHO CAUGHT THE FISH?

Who reeled it in ... You did. You caught the fish otherwise the fish is still swimming in the lake.

can't agree biggest part is getting the hookup....... in any case the fish is still going to be swimming in the lake when it's over

It's a trick question. There was no real hunt to it, mediocre thrill factor, like drivin deer/pheasants at a game farm in my opinion. If i had to answer tho, it was a team effort.

Ask a charter captain/guide how many fish he caught last year I'll bet a dollar to a donut he's not going to say none ...my clients caught all the fish

Simple...the BOAT caught the fish UNLESS the rod is in your hand when the fish hits...then YOU caught the fish. Rod in Guide's hand...the guide caught the fish.

Trolling in rod holders is a team effort and each person takes their turn. There is no need for a hook-set in my humble opinion, as the fish is more or less hooked when it hits.

The only thing that matters is the perspective of the person who reeled it in. For the rest of us EA came up with a decent point system last week that we can use to judge the acomplishment. Does another person change judgment if a child reeled it in?

Yes Todd. I have the boat, the gear, the spot scoped out, and hand my kid the pole I just set hooks with. Who caught the fish? My kid.

If they could pass around the fish and have an hours long photo shoot, that'd be great.

I must agree with Todd, it is perspective of the client that truly matters.

I have no problem with that, does it hold the same for an adult?

When I finally got a boat, I went to a place I had never fished before, picked a spot that looked good on a map, and to my surprise I caught a 40"er. Nice clean fish, chunky for its length. After I put the fish back and got back on the TM to finish out the spot, Samantha said "Hey, that's the first musky in your boat!"

Don't know if I ever thought about what my first "real" muskie would feel like after years of fishing out of other people's boats but here it is:

"Yeah. Huh." *cast*....

I guess the only difference is paying someone and pride. And when it comes to pride and men, well, we'll never know the answer. Could be a legal battle for rights to the fish. To each his own. For what it's worth. Whatever floats your boat...

On another note, I went across Lake Dubay/WI River today and she's opened up by Hwy 34. Was 68 today in Central WI

who reel the fish in ? easy answer. even if the guides do almost all the work ,at the end the net guys can't be credited for the fish.a polite way would be mr x with a 55 pound fish guided by mr y. but at the end i think it's the client choice, he pay enough money to make the choice ,even if the giant will be published or not

I'm gonna say the guy running the rods and running the boat is most responsible for fish caught. I will also say that fishing with a guide is more about learning than it is about catching fish imo.

Does the same apply for sucker fishing?
Guide buys the sucker, puts the sucker in the water, runs the trolling motor, clicker goes off ... You set the hook, and crank the reel. Guide nets the fish. Is that the boat or the client's fish?

To me sucker fishing is the most boring and skill lacking way to catch a muskie compared to casting and trolling.

To me, that means you are doing it wrong.

Listen to Herbeck talk about live bait (sucker) fishing, and then tell me if there is no skill involved.

A lot more to it than just putting a sucker on the line and throwing it out the back of the boat.

Ok Let's suppose I hire a guide to fish big fish water. Say the guide and I are trolling along one pleasant evening and whamo Mr BIG hits the bait. I spring to my feet grab the rod and reel in the fish. The guide nets it and measures it and it is a new state record. Who's name goes into the record book me or the guide?

I figure it only matters to the person who caught the fish, I guess.

The rest is stupid ego and schlong measuring.

Personally, I like the challenge of chasing fish out of my boat, with my small brain, overly expensive gear and quickly evaporating knowledge of muskie things....but that's me.

Actually 2 years ago in the Lake Ontario Salmon Hunt A guy won a car 6 months later the charter captain sued for half the value. The rules clearly state the fish belongs to the ANGLER who weighs it in. The guide accepted $1000 on the court house steps as he knew he was not going to win.
