| I kind of looked at bucktails as a shallow to mid-depth presentation when muskies are in an aggressive/active stage. Deep water to me is heavy plastics, deep divers, or even heavy jigging techniques. What are the whens, wheres, whys and hows of choosing bucktails for deepwater ,say 12 to 15 feet and deeper, and what bucktails would u use? |

I use bucktails at times in deeper water on a clear water lake i fish. I like spankys because they are a bit heavier and get s little deeper.
Honestly though, if I am fishing blades in deeper water, I prefer spinner baits. They just seem a bit more versatile for that situation. |

Location: Leech Lake, Walker MN | Was guiding one day on Rowan in July and could not find a fish where they were supposed to be had both guys just throw out the back of the boat over a lake trout hole
They could see the bait ! That close prop wash close and we didn’t got 50 yards and hears a 48” well we got 5 more in the next 2 hours to 53” they were just laying around out there who knows how far down they were but they would just Blast the bait. I absolutely stumbled on it but I did replicate the pattern several times over the years

Location: St. Lawrence River | Have caught quite a few nice fish throwing bucktails over deep-ish weeds on the deeper outside edge. 15-25ft deep. Actually had Gerry Carroll start building us heavy 5oz bucktails for this purpose. |

| Attended a seminar Greg Thomas put on a number of years back and he talked about catching muskies on a MN lake with a double cow girl in over 30 feet of water. I think he was trolling but can't remember for sure. He said there was no structure, nothing for the fish to relate to but they were there. |

| A related question on blades with trolled spinnerbaits. On the upper arm , the swivel attaching the blade to the arm...having a snap connected to the swivel allows the option of using one or two blades. Anyone troll with 2 double 10's that way? Notice any difference in fish preference between single vs double blades when trolling with #8 or 10 Colorados, particularly in deep water? |

Location: Pewaukee, WI | For whatever it's worth, I get a fair number of requests for dbl. #9 blades on my spinnerbaits. More so then on any other size blades. I usually make them using a 2.5 or 3.5 oz. spinnerbait head. |

Location: Southern Indiana | I fish bucktails in open water all the time. I retrieve them right under the surface & fish don’t hesitate to eat them, at least in warmer water. Biggest fish I ever caught came on a junior cowgirl right under the surface over 35 feet of water. |

| It's a regular practice in one lake I fish. It's nice when I hook one in deeper water. I don't have to worry about them burying themselves in weeds or stumps. |

| Probably one of those “doh” comments, but just because a fish moves into deeper water...doesn’t mean he is moving deeper into deeper water. |

| I fish bucktails basically as much as I can and they are effective over all depths. Just because the water is xxx ft deep does not mean the fish are that deep. Most of the lakes I fish I would consider 12'-18' the sweet spot and at least 50% of my fish caught are on bucktails. Sworral and I both would be quick to point out I'm catching them on bucktails cuz I'm fishing bucktails... The point is they work, don't be afraid to try it. |

| I fished a unweighted suik over 90' of water successfully, the fish may be 10-20' deep but can hear or see very well at times, if you fish a buck tail 12' down probably will work fine any way |
