| Hi,
I want to upgrade my setup and want to buy a new rod for Pounders. I allready have a St. Croix Big Dawg, but it's a little bit too light for these baits. Has anybody already fished the new St. Croix Pm90Xhf ? How does the rod feel in comparison to the Big Dawg and does it really have enough power to cast heavy lures with 16 oz. ?

| My only problem I have with the new rubber rod is the handle size, I like to buy rods that are capable of being all purpose. For me fishing inland and lsc mainly the handle thickness is my only complaint and why I’d rather have the 8’6” xh. |

(Your english is better than most people that have english as their main language here, so absolutely no need to apologize).
If I was looking for a rod like you mentioned, I'd check into Tackle Industries. They've got a wide range of offerings, and I don't know how anybody can compete with their prices. I've only got one of them (and love it), and wouldn't hesitate to buy more from them if I needed more. From what I've heard (I haven't needed to find out for myself), their warranty is very good too.

| Get a thorn bros Predator..I have the Big dawg and the Predator Rod and there is no comparision... I wont even throw pounders on the big dawg mags only and the Predator tosses Pounders like they aren't even there...Predator throw Pounder like Big dawg throws a Mag Dawg |

| For ordering from usa, the telescipic rods from tackle industries and okuma are your best option if you want a pounder rod, same lenght as the rest but shorter transporte lenght = less delivery cost |

I believe the Big Dawg is only rated for 12oz. The new Premier "rubber rod" is rated for 16 oz. This should St Croix's most capable big bait rod yet. |

| Thank you guys for your response. I know, the Predator Rods are awesome, but it's nearly impossible ($) to get them here in europe. I think I'll give the Premier a try and hope it will do the job. The casting-weight on my Dawg and Slingblade are accurate, I hope it's the same with the Premier.

Location: Ontario, Canada | I'm a big St.Croix fan. I had that Premier Pounder rod in my hand today and I don't like that handle. Its just too thick for my liking. Of course I'm used to Split grips. |

| It's a thick handle, but i've heard from people who have used it that it's a great rubber rod. For the price I'd recommend trying it. |

| Tackle Industries XXH rods are rated for 16oz and will handle every bit of that weight. They are definitely worth picking up if you need a rod for pounders. |

| Sorry for reviving this old post but I was wondering if anyone has actually thrown pounders on the PM90XHF. My buddy has a TI XXH and I have an Abu Veritas Toro 9ft 8-16 oz and personally I don’t care for the way either casts pounders. Both are too stiff at the tip. They just don’t load and unload to my liking. I’m still searching for a Pounder rod that doesn’t punish me on every cast and wonder if the PM90XHF is the answer. |

| I don't know if you're into split grip but I would take a look at Okuma rods. 9'3" extra heavy has plenty of backbone but the tip is rather on a soft side. Had mine for several years and none of the guides have cracked. Unfortunately I can't say the same about the other brand mentioned above. Unless you are one of the hardcore St Croix fans and need to spend $100 more to feel satisfied. Telescopic as well, down to 7'6" when collapsed, so not only it is convenient for storage or travel but might save you on shipping cost. |

The Vexan Inshore blanks are made from different materials than the original TI's, and make a stronger/tougher rod blank. The action of the Inshore blanks also seem to be just a little more moderate than the original TI's, and allows them to load deeper.

Location: Land of the Musky | As of January 2019 all TI and Vexan rod new production is using NEW designed blanks! As of 1-1-2020 Tackle Industries and Vexan are letting everyone know about the new blanks on all rods. The new blanks have a brand new design that makes them 20% lighter and a LOT stronger. In 2018/2019 we did a considerable amount of testing on the new blanks and as you can see they passed with flying colors! Up to 800lb gators using an XH rod meant to throw 2-8oz lures. These new blanks have incredibly strong backbones on them yet will throw light lures like a dream!!

I bought the premier pounder rod. The thick handle bothered me in the store, but that changed instantly on the water. St Croix put some time and effort in with this rod. It takes a lot of the work out of throwing and ripping big baits like pounders, mcrubbers, and dussas. I recommend it if you're looking for a good off the shelf rod. |

| Will the extended xh and xxh rods (9 foot 6, 10 foot, 10 foot 6) as well as the xxxh rods be made using these newer blanks as well in the near future? Or would we have to wait a bit before that happens? |

Location: Minneapolis, Minnesota | I have not fished it but I just held the 9ft xh premier and Cabelas and I was blown away at how it felt, weight wise and power. I didn’t have a reel on it but just playing with the action it felt like it would handle a pounder or big dusa no problem, also it didn’t feel heavy in the hand like a lot of other big rubber rods I have felt. Would way rather have that than the 8’6” xxh okuma I use for big rubber |
