Looking for suggestions for tip ups for the Wisconsin opener!

Great question. I am curious as well. Should I be using my first ice locations or should I seek out likely spawning areas and areas in that vicinity?

What a stupid question! The question should be, will i need my atv for the opener or can i just drive to the spots want to fish?

I don't think you will need them for the musky opener in the Northern zone in WI, that is Memorial Day weekend. However, for the regular fishing opener, you probably will. Was at the Musky Hunter sponsored seminar at Nicolet College on Saturday and one of the presenters was a veteran fisheries biologist for the state. His prediction was that if the weather forecasts are right for the rest of April, a lot of lakes will still have ice for the opener. He had been out earlier last week and said he found 28 inches of hard ice where he was fishing. And Saturday night the National Weather Service office at the Rhinelander airport recorded a temp of minus three (-3) degrees.
Unless we get warmer than predicted temps and warm rain, I think a lot of lakes will still have ice. But, a week of warm weather and rain can make a huge difference.

LOL. Not in northern WI. Rhinelander news is reporting that their 'computer generated forecast models' for the next 2 weeks indicate no improvement in air temps. And more snow this weekend in Vilas County,

In the northwoods, last year summer was on a Wednesday. Ha!

In layman's terms, the forecast last night on the Rhinelander TV station was crappy, extremely crappy and a chance of even sh****r weather over the next three days, followed by unseasonably cold for the next week after that.
In all seriousness, those traveling to N. WI this weekend really need to keep an eye on the weather, there is a chance of ice Friday through Sunday. Snow, rain, those I can deal with but ice, not so much.

Patience and reason win again. Ice is going, going, gone. You can take off the muskie line that you spooled up on your tip-ups back in April. Ha

Not so fast... put tip ups out yesterday just to say I did. In a T-shirt by the way.
Some lakes are wide open; but a few still have fishable ice.
