What are some of the amusing things that you see musky fisherman do? One of my favorites is when you are aproaching an oncoming boat. You exchange hellos and notice everyone has their rod tip in the water hiding the bait they are throwing. One, thanks for letting me know you have either caught fish today or have caught fish there on the baits you are throwing. In 15 seconds I can look over and see what they are. Typically they are a mass produced bait in a stock color.

I havent seen that one too often Todd, but it would be hilarious if i did see it! Honestly, most of my experience has been super positive with the musky community. The most amusing stuff that I witness actually happens on this site. I really enjoy reading the posts from fisherman who are so confident that they are so "right" about a topic that they would rather die than concede that there is a possibility of them being wrong.

Them; I boated a 55 incher today.
Me; Cool..Any pics ?
Them; No.. they didn't turn out. plus we didn't have any way to measure it
Me; How did ya know it was 55"
Them; I've caught enough to know the difference between a 54 and a 55 incher.
Me; Where at ?
Them; Oh you know, Lake X.. and in less than 4.23 hrs, which is my avg.
Me; OK then ! good job.

I have seen this before, I witnessed a boat in GB doing this every time a boat went past. Funny thing is it was mid summer and they were hiding dbl 10 bucktails, the most used bait on GB at the time. It interesting in never dawned on them that they were a few eleventeen years behind the secrecy of that pattern. Best part here was later that day we stuck a fish on a glider next to them and then all proceeded to stick the rod tips down in the water very obviously when they inquired of size.

Another time, less amusing and slightly infuriating, but I have seen this on multiple waters where bumper boat fishing is common, is to try an cast as close to the back of someones boat. Again on GB a couple of guys were doing this to the stern of our boat, my buddy fishing out of the back made a few WTF jesters to them that were ignored. He finally reached his limit and ripped a large lure at their feet, causing one guy to step back. Then then unbelievable happened, a 47" smokes the lure at the feet of the other guys. We boat a 47 packed up and left!

I drag my lure as a lazy way to relax waiting for my next cast not hiding the lure "normally " but I literally tell the truth at the boat ramp to what my plan is and people assume I'm b s ing them and do the opposite of me, and I have decent luck, couldn't imagine doing what they were doing while I was getting my results

I like the guys who tell you they had a lot of action on this or that lure or color, but there's not one on any of their rods, or even visible in the boat.

I was fishing a Vilas county lake last July...working my way down a weed edge. I was about 75 yards from an inside turn in the weed edge, spot on the spot type deal.... a couple guys come easing by me, stop at that spot, make 15 cast and move off down the weed edge ahead of me... I still went through there and caught a 46 1/2".... they seen the whole thing and came back and chewed me for catching "their" fish...I just laughed and laughed, the more they got the louder I laughed...I never said a word, just laughed in their face.........

How did their fish end up in your net/boat? Why wasn't it in their net?

People take their hobbies far to seriously. Anybody wants to know where I fish, what I catch, what I catch 'em on is welcome in my boat any day. That way they can experience what I eat for lunch, how often I take a nap and if I got skunked that day.

Had a guy yell at me once for climbing on shore to fish a lure out of a tree. "I don't think the guy who owns that property would appreciate you trespassing like that! You know that's private property, right?" To this day I don't know why I didn't bother telling him it was MY property.

Brian, i think i speak for all of us, we would all like to know your poop habits.

Once a bass guy tells me he has caught a 55 or 60" pike or musky(have been told both) from illinois water, i do not question it, i disengage pretty quick and move on.

I guess that guy would have had a real issue when I came back with my tree trimmer and cut off the end of a branch to retrieve my weagle.

Muskies don’t have “patterns” in regards to bait selection as much as we like to believe. This makes some of us out there look like idiots, by hiding lures, not sharing information, copying what others are doing, etc, etc, etc. Getting a fish to bite has more to do with depth or putting your lure in the “zone”, lure speed or lack of speed, and the way you presented that bait or cadence.

Oh, and the comment I hate most...”What you catch em on?” “Hooks.” Seriously, idiot.

Admin: Want to try that again without all the profanity? Don't try to get past the foul language filter here...you won't.

If he was that tan, he likely fishes naked.

I love this one and I'm as guilty as the next guy. Someone I know and or a club member drifts by... seeing any? "Nah, well one small lazy follow earlier today on the other side of the lake", giving them the poker face while squeezing your ass cheeks together... Meanwhile you're praying they don't start casting anywhere because you just had a good one one up once or twice in the last 10 minutes. I love this sport

My fav fat-guy swimming story, if you’ll bare with me (sorry) goes way back to the days of the Wisconsin Musky Tour (WMT) which for most(?) of the time was a pretty great way to spend a Wisconsin summer. It was a fairly cold water fall morning, still dark right before ease-out on Sand and Dam when my automatic bilge pump kept coming on. I quickly deduced the dummy running the boat had left the plug out, ten hours were ahead running the bow-mount, and I had my doubts on the battery life. Even if it held, I really couldn’t listen to the pump all day long and have sanity left. In my old Lund days I would have just reached down got a touch wet, but on a Ranger 620, you can’t reach the plug.
So, being as how I didn’t want to fish in cold wet clothes either, no time for going back to the ramp, I stripped naked and went over the side. Ten hours later, tournament director waiting at the ramp for me, said, “Marty, we have a problem!” He said he was very sorry but two fellow competitors had registered a complaint against me that could disqualify my catch. My good friends had told they witnessed me and my extremely fat rear end swimming naked under my boat just prior to the ease-out. As cold as it was, they figured I wasn’t trying to cool off, and must have had a secret live well under the boat. (Folks with long memories will recall that did happen many years ago) So, guess what saved my flawless reputation from being forever banned from tournaments? It’s my other reputation! So Tom?, I asked. How many fish did you measure for me today? Well, none Marty, I can’t recall the last time you caught a fish in a tournament! Now, fully realized that if I had brought a fish, I certainly would have measured it he apologized profusely but was curious about the naked swimming. I asked if he really needed to know with a sly look that suggested I may have been looking for a date. “Not really,” he replied.....and that is a 100% true story.

I once freespooled a fish while a passing boat asked if I had had any action. I lied off course.

I have certainly been guilty of some of these, though I have to say when I land a fish or post a picture (yes bragging is fun too) and the first comment is "what on and where?" it really annoys me. I put a lot of time into finding good spots away from the crowd and there is nothing worse than going to your favorite quiet spot and having to put the bumpers on your boat bc "internet fishermen" found out where you were. This is why I my go to line when asked is sorry worked too hard for this not going to tell you, don't like to lie just like to keep secrets.
