Once again I will be trying to catch my first muskie in the Minocqua area. Going to be headed to Big Saint Germain in mid to late August. Any tips or anything would be much appreciated.

Big Saint wouldn't be my top choice for a first musky, but you've got some nice action A2 and B class waters in the region.... But like any most of them get pounded to death. Be flexible and open to trying others too.

If considering a guide, hopefully you've looked into the services and expertise of any of the area's top anglers that includes Manthei, Raley, Remortel, or Lijewski.

I wish I could get a guide lol, I’m only 14 and wouldn’t be able too afford it.
And my parents wouldn’t bring me to a different lake then what the resort is on

Big St is great lake and you'll be fishing it at a good time of the yr. I've had action on Big St on Suicks, Top Raiders and Bulldawgs. Use speed and erratic action as your triggers. The obvious structure around the island and the points around Lynn Ann's campground are the obvious spots to start.

Something that might work for you, is to let the resort owners know you are fired up about musky fishing. Maybe another guest is fishing solo and would be willing to take a young angler out with them. Lots of guys are willing to take young people out. I am not recommending you go around asking folks to fish with them but if you let your interest be known, might end up in a ride.

One good technique that has worked well for me on pressured water ( especially northern wi ) is to rip plastics through the weeds. I like regular sized bulldawgs or mini Medusa’s. It’s not a new technique, lots of guys do it, but it’s won some tournaments. You’re basically trying to get a reaction strike. If you’re doing it right you will have to remove clumps of weeds after each cast - not fun but effective. Consider fishing at night as well and pay close attention to moon rise and set. Make sure to slow down your retrieve after dark.

Here's a recent study done on cisco and whitefish. Big St. Germain has a low population of cisco.

Good luck in Minocqua! Also as you are a Minnesota angler it may be worth it to see if someone would be willing to take you out on a muskie lake near you. A lot of guys on here would be cool with showing a beginner the ropes for a day. Also a great way to catch your first fish. That is assuming you and your parents would be comfortable with that. I learned to fish for muskies 100% on my own when I was right around your age and I am proud to have done it. I also know I made it way harder on myself then it needed to be as the beginners I take out now have honed skills and big fish under their belts in 1/4 of the time it took me.

Try Lost or Found lakes.. In the same area and you may have better results.
