I use Lureworks solvent based paint and the clear on top.It is very toxic.
They have a safer paint but it must be coated afterwords.
Lureworks is the way to go.

Or check this out. Larry Dahlberg is associated with these guys. Lots of lure making tips and tricks of course using Alumilite products.

Shown in this link is the Copic spray system, basically an ink marker used to color soft plastics. Alumilite also sells colored powders that can be used to "paint" soft plastics. In all cases they recommend a quick dip in clear plastisol to seal the paint job.

Copics will work, a friend of mine uses them, but the Lureworks solvent based paint is far better and makes baits that look as good as any manufactured soft plastics out there - especially if u use the clear paint over it at the end.
But you need proper ventilation and/or a fresh air supply mask like auto painters use cause this stuff is nasty.

U have to add thinner to the VPI paints - 50/50 ratio
It comes ready to paint in smaller containers and is called SBCoat but it is just a pre-thinned version.
On warm days it sometimes cobwebs a bit so buy a small bottle of retarder and a thinner too.
If u lay a generous amount of the clear on top the paint is shiny and very durable.
U will be pleased with this product but be careful as all soft plastic paint is very toxic as it needs solvents to make it adhere properly to soft plastics.
And - wipe your lure down with isopropyl alcohol prior to painting!!
