| Hey Guys -
Looking to get my first Side Imaging unit. Have a question about transducers/location.
I've heard of guys getting the Y cable and run 2 SI transducers (one on each side of the motor). Is this always necessary? Or with good placement can you use just one?

Location: SE WISCONSIN | What kind of boat do you have? It's not always needed in my case with my Lund I get excellent results using 2 SI transducers compared to only one. |

Location: Foley, Mn | I think its going to depend on your hull. My boat has a stepped transom and I mounted it off to one side on the back of the transom and I had some interference problems from my kicker. Then I moved it to middle of the hull under the step in the transom and it works perfectly. |

Location: MN | Not usually necessary on muskie-sized boats, but as mentioned, some hulls do create a scenario in which sonar imaging on both side can be better with (2) SI transducers. two of biggest factors in transducer and SI performance is the transducer mounting location and mounting the transducer level when the boat is on the water. That said, I'd recommend running the SI transducer, Y cable and 2D high speed transducer to start and see where that gets you. You should be able to get good images with that setup and also keep depth and sonar at high speed.

| but would there be any improvement using two transducers ? and two transducer conected to two diferent screens ? like one for left and one for right ?

| I overanalyzed it before I installed mine but I just installed one transducer as prescribed in the manual and it works great.
My motor needs to be trimmed up a hair for a good left side image and I can get a speed reading as long as it's not too rough when on plane. |

Location: Northern Illinois | I plan on getting a new HB SI unit this year also. I plan on keeping the HDS-9 G2 on the console for 2D and mapping only. Not to hijack, but will the shoot thru the hull Lowrance transducer interfere with the new SI transducer? Is there a minimum distance I need to keep between the transducers?

you just have to turn off the 2D on the side imaging unit . |

| There have been a number of postings on the transducers for this type of unit, it kind of makes me nervous about doing it myself. What does it cost to have it professionally done? I do a lot of do it yourself projects, just finished adding an electrical circuit, outside outlet and a new exterior light to my storage garage but not sure about this. The one advantage of having it professionally done is you can take it back and have them do it right if it doesn't work |

if you're doing that type of work, installing this type of stuff should be like tying your shoes. drill a couple holes, mount a transducer, and plug the stuff in. about as easy as it gets

I have always found working with AC electrical much easier than 12V DC. The ground, etc., is much touchier. Some of it may be psychological but I struggle with 12 V wiring. |
