Hi everyone, I started muskie fishing the rivers of western PA and WV three years ago. As my first muskie boat I bought a G3 1656 center console tunnel jet. Since then I have been on a mission to create the ultimate shallow river fishing boat. I was wondering if anyone else out there is fishing for muskies from a jet and what modifications you have made to your boat? Pictures would be great!

Current modifications/upgrades:
6hp kicker and bracket
Custom track system and rod holders (made by Fat A.Z.)

Project for this winter:
rewire for 24v 80# trolling motor

Not many jet boaters here in MN, but that looks like an awesome setup so far! Lookup MN river guide Noah Binsfeld, he guides for muskies in the local rivers and runs a jet. I'm sure he could give you some pointers if desired

I have a G3 1652 with a Yamaha 40hp jet tiller, that I use on the Wisconsin River.
I have kept my boat striped down to run in shallow rocky areas the only addition has been Scotty rod holders in the back

I've been fishing the New River in Va with my G3 1860 jet for 8 years now. The G3 gator tough boats are great for the money, but certainly not bulletproof in shallow water. A couple of the mods I've done to my boat which really have helped out are:
1. Got rid of the dang drivers seat...it got in the way constantly and seriously, who drives a jet through shallow water sitting down? Once I removed the seat I covered the live well lid with Hydroturf so it could function as a bench seat that was functional and also as a mid-boat casting deck if needed.
2. Covered all casting deck surfaces with Hydroturf ...the stuff is awesome. It takes a beating, cleans up easily, doesn't get hot while fishing in the summer, and doesn't freeze up during winter fishing.
3. Applied Tuff-coat in the belly of the boat, vertical surfaces, and gunwhales. I love the look and anti-skid properties of the product, but it was extremely labor intensive to prep the aluminum so that it would adhere correctly.
4. Re-wired the entire trailer made by Bear. There were way too many crappy splices in the wiring that were causing problems.

Also a PA guy here. I run a 2006 SeaArk Outlaw skimmer 1860 powered by a 1999 Mercury 45 jet. The boat came fully carpeted with a large rod locker. Last year I completely stripped the carpet and removed that locker. I repainted the hull with 3 coats of interlux brightside one part poly. The interior has 2 coats of poly and is topped with Kiwigrip.
I usually see 28-31 mph depending on direction of travel and wind. This year I added a splash plate to the transom. The rockproof intake throws a lot of water. The homemade plate seems to help direct water into the jet and decrease on plane time.

I fish rivers out of my 14ft princecraft 142 tiller. It has a very flat bottom and does no have a big v in the front. Works very well with a 55lb minnkota hand control up front. I run scotty rod holders on mine, i bolted 4 small oar locks(at 3am in the back of the lodge motel on north webster) and use the oar lock mounts. I like the minimal area it takes up in the boat.

Lenny:
That's a nice rig. I never saw such a large outboard jet motor. How long is the boat? What kind of top speed do you see? How is your plane time? The Allegheny is a great fishery and definitely jet boat only territory as you get up north.

Great point about the seat removal. It does nothing but gets in the way. I have also had some trailer wiring issues but I have not yet replaced the wiring. That is going to have to be added to my to do list. I have rafted the New River a couple times but never fished. It is certainly a beautiful river.

What is the top/cruise speed with that rig?

1860 with a 90/65 Yamaha 2stroke. Its big, wide and slow. However, it jumps on plane and drifts very shallow. Western PA here as well.

I'd take a Wooldridge Alaskan XL with a center console and a 150 etec over a RiverPro. The RiverPro and Rockproof are both great boats. We see them both fairly often on the river. However, for how I boat and fish thats just my take.

This is my Jet boat I use it on the upper Mississippi. Has a Johnson 50/35 Jet on it. Works good on some pretty low water. Got a good deal on it a few years back.

1872 MVT Sea Ark with 90/65 Merc jet with a River Larry. Runs in inches of water, great for the little KY rivers and for hammering trout and stripes on the Cumberland
