Location: Lake Country, Wisconsin | I’m about to make the plunge and finally say adios to Lowrance. Couple Hummingbird questions..
-I will be buying Helix G2N units...will those come with the needed cords to link the units or is that separate (as I assume)?
- The unit on my bow is going to have only DI (if that). How would the universal sonar built into the Terrova come into play here, if at all? Will they have to use the Hummingbird transducer instead?
- Thought I saw a radar feature on the demo..anyone use it or suggest it?

| You'll need an Ethernet cable to link them and 2 dongles. Bird decided to make money off the connectors on the helix units. Ethernet cable comes in different lengths. I have a helix 10g2n linked to an 1198. Only needed a dongle for the helix.
If you want DI you will have to put a DI ducer on the TM. The universal will only give you 2D sonar. Is one going to be SI? Or just a 2D and a DI? I think you can share the DI from one to the other but would need to double check on the website with the models.
Can't help on the radar. I would guess you will really like the LakeMaster chips and the depth shading. |

So one Ethernet cord, and one dongle ...dongle being this it sounds like?

1 cable and 2 dongles (one for each unit). That appears to be the right part number but the description is odd. Here is the part from the bird website.

With one SI and a plain unit you will only be able to share waypoints/temp and 2D sonar. Their model is SI can only be shared between SI units and DI can shared between DI units or SI units. Compatibility matrix below.

If you decide to add the link to your Terrova you will also need to add an Ethernet switch.
If you want full sonar sharing get 2SI units and it gives you a better backup. But that is a finance decision for you.
Waypoint sharing is very handy but be aware the unit "owning" the waypoint needs to be powered on for the waypoints to be shared. I try to get the points uploaded regularly and moved on to both units. |

But what your looking at on the front would be 20' back. We chose just to get a 9" helix sonar gen 1 for 529.99 to mate with our helix 10 mega on the dash. |

Its not perfect, but it is still better than I could do manually anyway. In high winds it does not work well if you are trying to go slower, but that is tuff not matter what. |

| Looks like I was wrong on the sonar sharing. They made the helix units fairly open so be sure to compare the exact 2 models. |

| Musky Brian.... Have you looked at solix units? I have them and absolutely love them. I'm sure they're are guys on here that don't agree with me, but last weekend I was on a buddies boat that had helixs and it made me realize how much I like the solix. |

Location: MN | FYI- if you hook the DI unit to US2 on your trolling motor, you will experience interference. You will need to have an external transducer to get DI/2D up front from that unit.
Hooked to US2, SI/GPS units and Sonar/GPS do just fine, but because how a DI/GPS unit operates internally, it will capture interference from motor through the US2 transducer.

| I have the 20'. I wired from the console to the bow in a 681VS and I'm not sure the 15' would have reached. I would at least get the 20' if you're going from console to bow. |

Location: MN | if you're networking direct, unit-to-unit, this will require more cable length than a network from a 5 port Ethernet switch. I'd suggest a 20', AS EC 20E. |
