Posts: 166 | Has it happened yet? Looking for a good place to try out my new 620 I am picking up this week. I have been up there a couple times when the buoys were out in the fall. Did okay, but a little nervous in a few spots. Never been there when the buoys were in. Like to not damage anything until at least the 2nd or 3rd time out........

Posts: 833 | The pins usually get taken out the last week of October / first week of November. A good map chip should keep you out of trouble on Tonka. Just don't push it around the shallower points. Edited by Brad P 10/9/2017 8:05 AM

Posts: 166 | Clark A - 10/9/2017 5:41 PM Is there a 620 Ranger w/o GPS? No, but I have seen GPS lake maps want to take me on the wrong side of buoys and not have all the bad rocks marked to know not to trust them 100%.

I fish Lake of the Woods alot, and know quite a few errors in different brands of lake chips on that lake. So that is why I am wondering if the buoys are in at Tonka, don't want to rely on just a lake chip when I am not real familiar with lake. Edited by oly67 10/10/2017 8:56 AM

Posts: 65 Location: Springfield, IL and Vermilion Bay, ON | GPS that we, as fishermen and outdoors people, use has what is know as EPE...Estimated Position Error. Commonly, that measurement is about 10-15 feet. That is the radius of the circle around your unit. Folks in Ag spend many thousands of dollars to guide their tractors and planters across a field in a straight line. If you zoom in all the way and retrace your path, you can still be off line by the amount of EPE.
