I currently have a 9'6 shimano compre. I like the length. I dont really like the rod. I have some bulldawg rods and like those but they dont come in a 9'6. Any suggestions for a 9'6 rod? I throw bucktails (8-10s), crankbaits, and topwater on it. Thanks

Ti makes a 9'6" rod. I have a 9' xh and a xxh. I really like them a lot.

TI or Chaos Assault Stick get my vote. I have both in the telescopic version and both are fantastic rods.

If yer not into the telescoping rods, consider having a custom built out to 9' 6"

There's a 9'6 Chaos Tackle Swat rod now, it's new. I have yet to try it though.

Check with Jeremy at Tuscarora if you might consider a custom. I had him build my last rod on a 9'6" telescopic TI blank and it's fantastic

Here's a name I haven't seen mentioned on the board before. Temple Fork Outfitters introduced a Larry Dahlberg designed Big Fish rod series this year. Of the ten rods in the series, the longest and beefiest is the TFD BFC 964-2. 9'6" and a two piece. But the ferrule is just above the handle. I have three rods from the series and love all three. The big one went with me to Green Bay a couple of weeks ago and all three guides I fished with loved it, also. All three mentioned how much they liked the rubberized trigger handle. Sounds funky, I know, but it's very comfortable. All also mentioned how light the rod felt. I don't fish two pounders and only rarely need to throw pounders, but the double 8's and 10's were no problem for it on the Bay. Rollie and Helen's have them on their website. The photography got to them too late to make their 2017 catalog, but they have them in stock. Well under $300.00.

Bucktails and Topwater have different needs. Since you are already fishing multiple rods I'd consider that. You can get away with a MH rod for just about every topwater out there. (cannonballs are an exception.) For blades, especially the 10s and up, you want a stiffer, stronger rod so the figure 8 transition is smooth and enables you to speed up the bait. Just my $0.02 on the topic.

most 9'6" rods are just more handle than actual rod... ie, my 9' Big Nasty is only 1.5" shorter than a TI 9'6" from the reel seat forward... the TI simply has a 3-4" longer handle.... personally I don't like the longer 18-19" handles... 15-16" is perfect to me. With that said, Keith Terlinden is getting back into Musky rod building and has a SWEET new blank designed by the guy that designed the old Diamondbacks (pre china days). I have one and one on the way.. He can build a 9' XH with 15" handle and it's more 'rod' than a TI...nothing wrong with the TI rods, they are very nice too. the XH that Keith has, at stock build is very much like my 9' Sling Blade he built me. He is building me another with 5" taken off the tip and will be 8'11" with a 15" handle. Will be a killer topwater and crank rod. I may have him build one more with 6" off the tip to 8'10"..would be a killer big bucktail rod. I am not sure what he will build these for yet but it might be worth contacting him to find out. They are sweet rods.

quick follow up to this. I got my 2nd custom from Keith at Pro Edge, he took his new XH blank, took 5" off the tip and built it out to just under 9' for me. Standard handle length like a St Croix, full grip. It feels awesome. I am putting my tranx hg on it tonight and it will be my new big blade rod. It is very similiar to the rod I had been using (which he made me 10 yrs ago). a rod with 3" off the standard blank built to 9 would be a great topwater/crank rod.
He will be selling them now for a good intro price, and a bit higher come Musky show season....

Keith has TI blanks too. He can build what you want on a TI blanks and we carry all telescopic blanks in our inventory for all builders. Just an FYI.
