| Ranger 681VS, 24v, Minn Kota Power Drive 65#
Seen tons of rec's for the EverStart Maxx AGM's. Unfortunately, those are sold out at Wally World and we're leaving for Canada in a week. Tried to find Interstates, but none of the Interstate dealers in my area carry Deep Cycle batteries. West Marine has a few options, but they're twice the price of the Wally World batteries. Tried Amazon, found a few brands-I've-never-heard of, bot those are nearly $250/pop.
Running 27's right now, and the 29's look like they will fit. (31's are too wide, so that's out)
Pretty sure 27's (which WM has) would be sufficient, but when my TM breaks I'll probably go with a larger one.
Thoughts?

Location: Hayward, WI | A 681 won't fit 31 series batteries? I'd go as big as you can. I got agms from farm and fleet last year and so far so good. Still expensive but less than many.
If you are considering changing batteries in the future just get some whatever wet cell batteries and be happy for a few years. I'd check more specs and make sure nobody makes a 31 that will fit. If not and you find some 29s that do that's the route I'd go. It's no fun trying to pick your spots based on conserving your batteries so they last all day.
P.s. I've heard good things about Cabelas agm batteries too.

| I just bought 2 Duracell ultra agm platniums group 31. 240$ each but they have a 30 month warranty. Heard they last a long long time on the water. I hope they do! Got them from battery plus. I went to cabelas in Rogers and had next to nothing for batteries. Said they weren't getting any more in.

Location: Duluth, MN | I'll 2nd the Duracell's at batteries plus. Got 4 new ones last year and they have all been flawless. I got the starter battery for motor. 2 31's for trolling motor and a 27 for my electronics. Last week i accidentally left my Helix 7 on and it ran for 4 days straight and was still powered on when i went to go out. The charger read 10%. Charged it back up overnight and it has been fine.
I went with the regular wet cell. With the luck i have had with regular wet cells i can't justify the cost of AGM. |

| Batteries Plus carries duracells. Shipped in to the nearest store for a good price. I'm running the wet cells now.
Had cabelas agms before and thought they were ok. Based on reports from the person who bought my boat they didn't last all that long. So I switched to Duracell. Probably back to AGMs the next round. |

Location: Hayward, WI | About the Cabelas batteries Nick talked about, that person that bought his boat is me. True, I want to say those cabelas batteries were shot after about 3 or 4 years. Seems they would have made it longer but maybe just one went bsd which took the 24 volt system down. I didn't bother testing them and replaced both. Overall they seem to get good reviews from others.
It's probably just a trait of agm batteries but I will say they seemed to have power all the way up till they went dead. |

Nothing lasts forever. I've had automotive batteries last 10 years. I've also had them crack, leak, short, terminals pull out, and generally fail for no reason after a year or two.
These were bound to go at some point despite having the boat plugged in. Not sure how old they were, but I was down to 2 bars in the first hour running the TM at about half power on a flat day. Pretty sure I'd have gotten an hour in a good wind and done.
Ordered the Duracell AGM 31's, out the door from Batteries Plus for less than $300 for the pair. Now let's just hope they get them in in time...
And is it me, or did batteries get awfully heavy?? |

that's the first thing i'd do is get a Terrova on that boat, a new MK digital controller and the MK alternator charger ... then just get some new wet-cells and you'll be Canada-proof and have the PD in the truck as a spare. |

| I measured the trays, and I THINK the 31's will fit. They're 1/2" wider than the 27's that are in there now and I've got about half an inch to spare. Hate to go down to the 27's, but I will if I have to.

Location: oswego, il | EA, is it a version 1 or 2 PD? Sometimes u can take apart the pedals and clean up the contacts on a V1. You can buy new ones on ebay or pick one up on the way north from a repair place.
Do as sled said and get a terrova. It's a direct bolt in from the PD. I bought one for 821 from imarine but i believe those are gone. A buddy of mine got one with all the bells and whistles for 1100 at gander. |

| Get the most bang for your buck Interstate. I believe they can purchased via the web if the local distributor is out. Never needed a size 31 size 27 or 29 good for my boat but I recharge between outing. |

| 31's are probably overkill, but I'd rather have some juice left at the end of the day in 20 MPH winds than have to say F-it at 2:00 in the afternoon. Been there paying $400/day for it. It sucks.

| Put the Duracell ultras agm group 31s to test this last weekend and all I have to say is WOW! Never dropped below 3 dots on the terrova and I was on the water for 15 hours a day. Pretty windy one of the days and she just plowed right through. Definitely would recommend them. |

Location: Contrarian Island | Duration AGMs from Farm and Fleet in WI have been very good in my 2 boats..many buds use them. Put the biggest AGMs you can fit is my recommendation.. .wet cells don't last as many years, no matter what charger you have.

Location: minocqua, wi. | i agree with that statement too, but ... if you don't want to spend, or can't spend up to AGM's what value to you place on battery maintenance vs. batteries themselves? of course they are both important but i'd suggest that the battery manager/charger is the critical component of getting the most out of battery life regardless of what is chosen. since i went to the MK460PC i got 4.5 years out of a set of Northern wet-cells. that's a pretty good value. |
