So what are you guys thoughts I have rods that are both...Considering another Rod this Fall..I Like both but wanted to hears some opinions and reasoning why you like what you like...I have found so far that with smaller baits either is great was gonna order custom predator in split for pounder Rod...ended up going to expo and glad I did ended up going full cork due to great point by TB worker...pulling pounder all day split grip starts to dig into Rib cage were full not as bad...Really like 13 omen Rod due to pad in cork handle nice features...what you guys like and dislike about both??
Thanks guys

The only rod I want split grip is my bucktail rod.. I would not want to work rubber with a split grip rod. your ribs will still be sore no matter what. But a full grip rod will help.

Sounds like your going through Thorne. If that's the case get a full cork with a flair. Best of both world IMO. Gives the comfort of a full but has the flair to make it feel like a split. If it isn't through Thorne than I would still go with the full grip.

The only split grip I use these days is a sling blade. I wish it was full grip.

Full grip unless you like the feeling of your rod smashing into your ribs on every pull.

Like I said I already got a Thornes Predator and its a 9'6" XH pounder rod and its full grip love it....also love the neoprene pad built into the OMEN MUSKY Rod it does help...Now I have split Grip on my jerk bait musky Mojo and love it for Jerks and also have split on my top n tail Legend but those are both working small baits and dont wish those two were full grip at all...but anything bigger I go Full grip...I just wanted to hear other ppl thoughts and see if any one prefered split on bigger Rods..

See dude in buy sell Lookin for a Big Nasty with Split Grip and couldnt figure out why he would want that Rod like that...That a Big Bait Rod and I couldnt spent that money on that Rod and rash up my Ribs

I have same set up use it for small blades and use ELK river custom 8'6" for bigger Blades with beast 60hs then if 60hs wearing me out switch to 8'7" omen with Beast 60 4.9 and roll tens there

Full grip & the reason is pretty simple, they float if they accidentally hit the drink.

I love my split grip but it bruises by ribs if I am throwing a walk the dog bait all day. I have solved this on one of my rods by using tennis turnagrip to make it softer, added to much bulk on the other and was uncomfortable.

Full grip

- ribs/side when jerking/ripping
- better rod balance
- floats

I use the split on my light Bucktail rod and that's about it. I like the feel of it for whipping out small baits and the rod/reel combo is ridiculously light. Any lures with a decent weight to them or lots of resistance on the retrieve I'd much rather have a full grip. More surface area against the ribs is a good thing.

Don't care for split grip. They feel awkward. All my rods are full handle.

I run a LT Top n Tail for small stuff with Beast 50, up to single 8's or so..

9' XH TI paired with Revo Toro S 60 WITH beast jigging handle, this is my bucktail rod. The S60 with jigging handle turns 10's like butter.. i love this setup for double 10's up to 4-4.5oz..

And a 9' XXH with a Beast 60 for rubber, and big stuff.

Split grips were ultimately designed by mass produced rod makers to cut back on cost for sky high prices of cork. Sensitivity and feel for most muskie applications is BS. It did give custom rod builders a nice space for logos or custom thread work. As stated above full grip is the only practical option for a muskie rig. As Kirby sated I wish the one split grip I did own was full cork so I converted it with padding and xflock shrink tube.

I prefer split grip 100% of the time, I hate having to look where I put my right hand to cast, split I can tell where it is and how much power I can give it. Ribs hurt either way when you set the hook on a pike but your hoping for a 62" musky. I have 1 full grip and I have thought about cutting it and taping it over.

Wow, very interesting....sounds like nobody likes/uses/has split grip rods....I have mostly Premier rods and was going to upgrade to a Big Nasty Split...thought the split grip on makes all the much better, at least in looks. Now I'll have to rethink this....Dam

I've gone to all split grips except on my glider/walk the dog topwater/ripping cranks rod. Almost everyone I know has as well. They're not just a fad or marketing scheme. All about personal preference.

Tons of people have split grip rods and love them. This is a very very very small percentage of the musky world chiming in on these threads. In all reality, its nothing to stress over. Very minor detail.. Big Nasty, I definitely go split grip. Rear handle length is longer with split grip Big Nasty, and i wouldnt want to sacrifice a single inch, cause the handles on those rods are not that long, in my opinion.

I love the split grip rods but can relate to the bruising of the ribs. To solve that, I wrapped my rubber rod with a section of 1/2" pipe insulation. IMO its way more comfortable than the full grip because of the cushion. You can use electrical tape or racket tape to secure it. For those of you that prefer the split grip, but don't like the abuse, give it a try.

Split for my glider, twitch bait, and bucktail rods. Full grip for all purpose/rubber rod.

I opted for the split grip in my legends. This was due to the fact that the split grips have a longer butt Section compared to the full grip. If they were the same length I would go for the full grip.
