Hey guys,

Was thinking of getting a new rig and wanted some advice. Right now I have a TI 9' xh with a NACL that is my kind of all around rod. Also have a TI 9' mh with a curado ej which is for smaller stuff. Also have an old gander mountain brand 8' with a saltist which I honestly use mostly as a loaner rod.

I throw blades at least half the time so I was thinking a blade specific set up would be best for me leaving the one with the nacl for whatever else I have rigged up.

I saw Cabelas has the tranx 300 for $299 which I can afford expecially since I have points, but also has a tranx 500 which is $499. Which one do you guys typically use for blades? I will likely pair it with another TI 9' xh.

Or if I should look at something totally different let me know, its been about 3 years since I really rod shopped so I might be missing something.

My buddy got the 400PG and it is nice. The 300 is pretty small
I used it for a bit and it relied on double tens plenty fast and was easy. Don't know if it will hold up over time but I liked it a lot. He added the tranx 500 power handle to it and it was a nice combo.

Definitely not the 300. Way too small. You should be able to find a good deal on a 500 if you search around online. I paid 300 for mine at a muskie expo. Also the revolution Toro beast is pretty sweet. Trans 400 would probably suit you as well.

The 300 Tranx is freaking awesome for 7's and 8's plus spinnerbaits, I love it on my sling blade for the smaller stuff.
9's and up, no doubt the 500Hg on my big nasty, is my go to for those, sometimes I use the Toro Beast instead, depending on the mood.

Smaller blades 8 and under the 400 works good. If you want a reel for big blades the Tranx 500 is king

I just got to use my new pg 400 tranx with the hg power handle it worked great throwing #9's in a local river. Was really impressed with how easy it cranked in the blades. Was able to bring them in pretty fast also. Of the Lexas, nacl and Toro s I have owned this reel brought them in the easiest and smoothest

For those using the 400A with the Ahg power handle, are you using the Shimano power handle or the Jigging World power handle? Or something else? It looks like the Jigging World handle is quite long. I could see that being nice on the high gear 500 Tranx, but is it TOO powerful on the 400 with 30 inch line pickup?

What I mean is, is the handle length so long that a double 10 feels like next to nothing? I tried the longest handle length on the jigging handle of my Toro Beast and it was almost too long, requiring a large arc, and it was almost too easy to pull a 10 if that makes any kind of sense...

I have both the HG and PG 400 so i swapped the handles on them. The jigging world handle is 100mm and the stock handle is 70mm so i opted to use the standard 70mm. It worked very well and i would not think the extra length is even needed at this point.

I put together a tranx 400hg with the TI 9' XXH and it is a killer combo for under $500. if you are putting together another combo i highly recommend getting the XXH TI because it makes blades a lot less work than the XH since you arent fighting the rod so much. throws everything from heavy 8's to pounders great too.

Have thrown blades a ton on the tranx 400 HG this season and it is holding up great
