Posts: 44 | After 5 years of building lures that basically suck, this spring I have finally made some that are productive. They are hand carved from northern white cedar. Sorry about the flash in the images, I am not the best photographer. The eyes are convex and mirror-backed so the pupil size and shape changes as the lure moves. They are hard thumping and run 3-6 feet deep depending on version. "White Bling" at the bottom is a seasoned veteran than hunts on the cast. Posts: 44 | Thanks for the comments guys! Since muskie fever I have been making and throwing conventional muskie lures with no success. Big bass love them however. Over the winter I decided to downsize and start "bass fishing" and finally started connecting with the target species! Still experiencing bycatch with a 22" lmb last time out but it keeps things interesting. Roller, like you I do everything by hand. Takes me 2-3 weeks to finish 4-5 baits. I still like your paint jobs better! Many thanks to those on this board who commented on my baits and made helpful suggestions in the past. These would not have happened without your input! Special thanks to ToddM who provided new insights.

Posts: 2004 | That bottom one looks familiar.. I fish with So IL, aka "My Name is Merle!", when I can make it to Kinkaid. One of the nicest , most modest guys you'll meet. He has made a lot of progress on his baits, thanks to his own determination and feedback from guys on the board. He even gave me a beautiful one the first time we went out, but now wants it back to tweek it some more... That White Bling ones is simply awesome. I fished with another buddy, and Merle fished alone by us, and Merle let Mike try it out. Mike was really impressed and talked about it later. Great job Merle!

Posts: 2004 | Forgot this... The best part is he's kept them short, but wide. That extra weight really makes casting them easy. He also has some really nice gliders, and is getting the dive and rise ones dialed in too. Can't wait for late September!!!

Posts: 44 | Just got in from the lake. One very timid follow and an ugly close encounter with a great blue heron that was intent on eating my bait. If anyone else was out there I was the one yelling frantically, waving my arms and at the same time reeling as fast as I could. Todd, one of the new ones has a very steep angle on the bill and only dives to about 12". I was having fun working "stumpy" through pockets in the milfoil until its progress was interrupted abruptly by a lmb. JD, I will do my best to post video but I usually have an inordinate amount of difficulty when it comes to that. JB I don't know if I would recommend going to the basement. Bait making may be an even worse obsession than muskie fishing. Jason, do you need another bait? Always great to fish with you! Thanks to all for the kind comments. Posts: 44 | Todd, no danger of catching a muskie from that lake. It's a nearby inland trout lake with really clear water where I go to test new baits. I have to do it really quickly. If the site manager catches me he gets upset since I'm not throwing a fly rod on that lake and doesn't get the concept of making baits in one's basement. JD I think the only thing rattling in that video was the wind or maybe my head, I'm not sure which. Jason, I have 10 more just like it on my workbench ready for primer, paint and epoxy. I think one of them has your name on it!
