I was changing hooks on a bait yesterday and what a pain when using the pliers I have. Does anyone have a pair of pliers made for larger pliers for Muskie sized split rings? Where did you find them ?

Best set I have found is a Frabill pair they have yellow handles. I bought at farm and fleet. I liked them so much I went back and bought 3 more pairs but have not seen them in there since.

my favorite are a pair that Rollie and Helens carries...they have a black handle, not sure they even have a brand name. They have them at the store but not on their website... otherwise the Rapala or Shimano split ring pliers on their site are decent

I've had a couple different pairs. Stumbled on these at R&H a few years back. Best ones I've found.

That Lazer brand, the blue handle will rip off...making it very uncomfortable. I padded the heck out of mine with duct tape. Now the handle is soft and comfortable in my hands. I do like it for its intention.

Alos like the Lazer. Have a larger, more expensive pair, Rapala I think, but like the Lazer better.

I actually really like the rapala mini split ring pliers. It took a little bit to get used to them but I can fly with them now and they take up very little space in my tackle bag.

I use these, seem to work well with big rings and opening them up for larger hooks.

Won't be using them on any Flicker shads.....

I live on an island in Alaska and everyone just uses needle nose pliers here, so when I needed a new pair...none to be found so I had to go to Amazon. Found these and they turned out working so well, I ordered a second pair, and a pair of the "small" for small stuff. They've been great.

So I can understand and learn more, how often do you all change hooks out and what's the reasoning for the timing?

I probably cut hooks out of 90% of the fish I catch. It's just easier to cut hook then to try to rip big hooks out of the fishes face. Split ring pliers make it a breeze to change hooks.
Other times I change is if the lure comes with junk hooks. I'm a big vmc fan.

Boone Stainless from Bass Pro are my favorites. I bought a pair 10 years ago in Florida and they have been the best I hve used.

Hook changes as needed but I'm constantly using split ring pliers to change lures since I refuse to use a snap on any of my casting leaders.
