I heard there was a tournament on the chain either the 20th or 21st (can't remember). I had plans to go fish out there that weekend and I was wondering how crowded the tournaments usually are. I don't plan on fishing the tournament but I was thinking about mainly trying to go out there and try to catch some walleye, maybe a little for Muskie too. I was just wondering if it gets crazy crowded to the point where it's hard to fish? Think I would be alright or would I be better off taking the day to go somewhere else? Thanks.

Yes its on sat the 20th - so far there are about 40 boats signed up there are always last minute walk ins signing up in the morning too so probably going to be 50+ boats participating in tournament, add all the other fisherman, pleasure boaters, and jet skis, you can bet that its going to get busy out there on saturday. If it were me i would go hit another body of water, maybe Silver lake just over the border would be a good choice since not too much further. Or You might be better off going to chain on Sunday

I figured that's how it would get. I just looked it up and it looks like Muskie on Saturday and bass on Sunday. Think the bass tourney would be less crowded? I guess I could go either day. I feel like after memorial day that place will be a zoo.

It all depends on the weather. I fished that tournament back when there were over 100 boats registered and the lakes were not what I'd call crowded, but the weather was kinda #*#*ty. I've fished the chain on a nice summer day in July when there was no tournament, and it was a zoo. We're talking "get me out of here before we die" kind of crowded.

I'd stick to week days, cold days, and late in the fall. Silver is better. But even then, I'd plan on fishing from daylight until about 10:00 and calling it a day.

I think I might give silver a shot, smaller lake to so it will be easier to fish my first time their. Never even knew about that place didn't realize how close it is to me, just over a hour. If I end up liking it I think I'll be out there a bunch. Anyone got any tips for it? I don't really know what to expect. Thanks!

Also, I forgot to add, is there anywhere near there I could pick up a WI fishing license, I haven't got mine yet?

Really? I didn't know you could get a different state license in IL. That works out good though anglers outlet is only 10 minutes from me. Now I got that figured out, anyone have any tips they would be willing to share about silver?

All the weedlines on silver hold fish, look for dropoffs and weed edges going anywhere from 5-10 ft into deeper water and cast spinnerbaits and gliders to weed edge, try and stay out into 15-20 feet casting to the shallows, water is clear so try to place your lure just in pockets at weededges without getting it too deep into vegetation and fouling your hooks, slow is key this time of year

Thanks martin from the little bit of looking at a map I did it looks like the northeast shore has shallow water that quickly gets deep.

Couple of thoughts:

1) Buy the license online Google Purchase WI Non Resident Fishing License
2) I haven't been this in a couple of years, it used to be no wake until 10am and they patrolled for violators

Nice little body of water.

Good luck!

Thanks Rob, didn't even think of the online rout but I'll do it that way. I have no problem at all with a well policed no wake until 10am. I like quit water. If I wanted it crazy I would just go to war on the chain lol.

Just head to the chain and follow all the tournament guys. A good way to learn spots, see what guys are doing and see fish. Silver lake is extremely boring.. IMO
