Curious how many of us out there have caught the same fish 2 x in the same day? curious to know the size, and what they were caught on..
Here is one from 2012 in my boat.. caught early in the day on a bucktail and then before sunset on a topwater, was 42.5.
we caught a different 44.5 2 x in one day, and then again the next day, 2 x on livebait, 1 x on an artificial lure
and a 45.75 2 x in one day on livebait

Strangely in 60 years I haven't, but have a friend that did. Caught a 42 on a Bobbie Bait, put a tag in it, came back an hour later and re-caught the same fish, same place, same bait! Ya never know with these durn fish!

Bob Turgeon and I caught the same fish 15 minutes apart last fall. I got her first around 09:00. Bob about 9:15. He wrote a piece about it in the First 2017 Musky Hunter....

My buddy Rich and I got the same fish on Oxbow twice in the same day. I got the fish on a sucker first, with out ever getting a hook in it. Brought it to the surface slow and netted it. When he got it later in the day it was on a sucker again. It may have stretched 35".

I got a 38" or so on meat last fall, went to resort for more suckers, put back where I left off the drift...got him again. Maybe 30 min apart. Was no doubt, he had very distinguishing marks.

seems they are much more susceptible to live bait 2 x in one day, Mojo1269 were 1 or both times on a sucker?

Brad's post looks like it happened in warmer water conditions but i would think colder water conditions would give the muskies a quicker recovery time and maybe at least part of the reason whe they ate the sucker twice?

Not quite the same but I had a smaller fish hooked on opener quite a few years ago and managed to get in about half way in. The fish then spit the hook and got off. I twicted the lure a few more times and watch the fish turn around and hit the lure again. This time I manage to get it to the boat. (~38") The water is very clear on this body of water and it 4 feet I could see the who thing unfold. So I guess I hooked it twice in one cast.

In a tournament I got the same fish, a 44", in exactly the same spot, on the same double 10,6 hours apart. It hit very lightly the second time and no fight. It had unique coloration so I knew it was the same fish.

I remember in a tournament at Shelbyville years ago someone who caught a fish asked if this lure was lost today. He gave it back to the original owner,as it still was in the muskys mouth when he caught it.Some fish bite twice.

I remember someone telling me they were on webster kne time throwing a mag dawg and a fish followed up and had that very same colored mag dawg stuck on its head.

I have caught the same fish a couple week apart but i did catch a walley in the fox river once that ate the same crankbait it ate 30min before from the very spot i released it.

We caught a 50" on a Thursday in MN...caught it again 2 days later on saturday, .. about 1/4 mile apart on the same breakline
both times eating a sucker...handle em right, get em back in the water fast, and they are no worse for the wear....

So does that count for one to two notches on the 50 list?

A couple things come to mind.  Catch and release works.  And there is not as many muskies in these lakes as some people think.  We just catch the same ones over and over to make it seem like there's a lot of fish.  I think some of these fish get caught like 10 times a year.

I caught a 49" on a sucker one morning and a different guy caught the same fish in the afternoon on a sucker.

2 in my book... if you get a 50 and catch it a year later it's 2 right? so why wouldn't it be 2 days apart? 50s a 50....and a 10 yr old kid caught it both times

good point Baby Mallard... I got a 53" 2 yrs ago on a lake in MN in sept... that particular lake there aren't many caught over 53.. well that Nov a friend was telling me his buddy got a 53...so I had him send me the pic, guess what....same 53 I caught in Sept... fish were caught on the same end of the lake but about 1 mile apart...

Harassing wildlife!!!
Has anybody ever heard the story of the well known person who caught the same fish several times over and over in a short period of time??? Canadian wardens found out about it and kicked him out for harassing wildlife. I guess it's ok to keep and eat em but not to torture them

I wish I was a good enough fisherman to get accused of harassing wildlife!

Last year in the Indianhead tournament the DNR had chip readers in the judge boats on Deer Lake. They were looking for data from fish with transmitter implants. There was a fish caught by the same guy, same bait, same spot hours apart.

I've only confirmed catching the same fish once and it was not the same day, but only a couple weeks apart on LOTW in the early 90s. I would have never noticed except while organizing the “paper pictures” there was an unmistakable black dot on the lower jaw.

I suspect like most, I don't take pictures of every fish or even use “paper” so it's probably going to be a lot harder to realize something like this nowadays.  A friend noticed a 55” that was caught from my boat that was also caught the year before by a different friend about 4-5 years ago, but that only happened because it was an exceptional fish.

I agree that muskies get caught many times and would guess my boat has caught the same fish twice in the same day, but honestly don't even think to look for it.

I know of one for sure, ate a Weagle twice about an hour apart, I believe that is the only one same day?.. C&R definitely works.. I caught one 4 times over 3 years, couple others I know I caught at least 3 times. I know these (3) because they had distinct marks and/or a defect...as for the "normal" looking muskies what Jerry said ^

Got a 50 a week apart from my buddy last fall. Same fish, same spot, sitting in exactly the same clump of cabbage. Both on suckers.
