If anyone is thinking about changing gears in their Tranx 500, it's going to require more than just the gears. The drag washers a bigger on the hg. I bought the gears thinking they were interchangeable. I'm going to bore out the gear, because the drag washers were crazy expensive.

Is this cost effective? Is it even possible?

thanks, Rob

YES it can be done
U will need to order
for the PG gears part # 4499 main gear $27.31
part # 4500 pinion gear $14.81
part # 4497 $1.03 Drag parts
part # 4495 $17.30 x 2
part # 4496 $1.09
Grand Total $78.30

for the HG gears part # 4454 main gear $27.31
part # 4470 pinion gear $13.61
part # 4450 $19.32 x 2 Drag Parts
part # 4452 $1.91
part # 4453 $27.31
Grand Total $108.78

Plus shipping and a $25.00 service fee to install. So $115.00 - $140.00 U make the call on the cost, cheaper then a another reel !

For the HG you can do it for less if you get the drag washers from Smooth Drag. You need to tell Dawn you need the Trinidad 16A. You will get the whole set for about $25 shipped. Tell her what you are doing and she will confirm it. I can't take the credit for finding this source, that goes to Propster.

This will eliminate the drag washer part number 4450 @ $19.32 x 2 = $38.64 and it will eliminate drag washer 4453 @ $27.31. So if you get the drag washers from Shimano it will cost $38.64 + $27.31=$65.95 plus shipping and tax.

So you can do the whole thing yourself for about $75 including tax & Shipping

Have a good day, the weekend is almost here for you guys who work.
