I put a 3 bank minn kota digital on-board charger in my boat last spring. a few places i fish doesnt have power close to charge my batteries. I have a 2000 watt honda generator. Just wondering if this would be safe to use on my on board charger or will it harm the charger?

It depends what sine wave your generator outputs and what your powering requires. Here's an excerpt from a paper.
Maybe an electrician can say for sure. I'm sure there are some on the forums.

A true sine wave (TSW) describes the perfect, smooth waveform of electrical output. Alternating current (AC) produced by a TSW
inverter, such as a Champion 2000W Inverter, has a smooth waveform. This differs from the modifi ed sine wave (MSW) of square
wave and modifi ed square wave inverters.
The waveform of these types of inverters
is a rough, stepped, digital approximation
of a TSW. See the graph to the left.
MSW power can cause problems with
certain electrical equipment, such as
variable speed motors, drills, sensitive
electronics, power supplies, transformers,
battery chargers and dimmer switches.
Consult the equipment manufacturer
before using MSW power sources.
Devices that depend on TSW output for
proper operation (i.e. sensitive to voltage
peaks or zero crossings) could be damaged or experience problems with MSW output. Radio operators may experience radio
frequency noise from these power sources. Inverters with MSW output may produce a hum or buzz in the audio of TV’s, radios and
satellite systems. These applications should be powered by TSW sources.

I never looked to see what the Honda 2000 generator uses (TSW vs MSW) but I have used it multiple times to recharge using the onboard charger. Back in the old days before I added a DC charger (alternator of big motor charges TM batteries) there would be times I would run the generator and charge while fishing at the end of 15-17 hour day. Was never a problem with my charger or batteries or electronics.

Honda eu2000i should be fine. It's an inverted generator, safe for computers, now a cheep non inverter generator would be Questionable . My 460 doesn't make my 2000 Honda rev up from idle.
