So my 2007 75hp Opti beeps when I slightly turn key for a system check like it should BUT then it beeps again when I actually turn the full way and start engine. My Humminbird is giving low voltage warning too so I got a brand new 100MC/800CCA battery and it immediately did the same thing. Uggh.

Any ideas boys????

Thanks
Landry

Do you have something draining the battery?

Hook your bird to an accessory switch instead of direct to the battery.

I'd start with the obvious and check all your terminals and connections, and make sure everything is clean, tight, and free of corrosion. Might also serve you well to check the water in your batteries.

Battery was brand new and fully charged.
Bird is not hooked to battery directly.
I will cLean all terminals.

I cleaned the connectors at the new battery. Is there any where else I should clean up near ignition...?

Remove all other accessory wires so only the outboard is hooked up, and see what happens.

I had a similar issue while running my Humminbird on the starting battery for my 115 Yamaha. During the time when the starter was engaged, the voltage showing on my Humminbird (I selected that as one of the readouts) showed very low and dropped enough to either give me a low voltage beep or kick OFF my Humminbird – never fun when firing up the motor to move to a new spot. My battery compartment is big so I bought and mounted another starting battery which now powers only my Humminbird. It doesn’t get charged during the day but I can run 12 hours and only drop a volt. I charge up the battery by switching cables to the opposite battery every other fishing day, or hooking up a trickle charger at the end of the day. It also serves as a backup starting battery. Maybe not everyone’s solution, but the Humminbird voltage is steady and never an issue with this setup.

Ok. There are some very knowledgable people who are saying that you should not use the threaded posts on a battery but go buy a pair of oem post clamps with a thread on it. I did that and today my volts on the bird and lowrance were consistently showing .3 volts higher all day. And yes even when merc was running witch is odd since the ring terminals were touching in both setups. Anyways it improved my day today. Worth the 4-6$ to try.

They claim that the inner threads get acid on them then corrode reducing connectivity.

Thanks guys. I will report back.

Btw I did the clamp posts thing like I said and I fished two long days for a bass tournament and ran 2 pumps all day and did not get the optimax low voltage beep or a no start. Very surprising to myself and dad who maintained batteries for the military and telecom industry for 40 years. It makes no sense to us because--- the post I clamped on to has a lead block on top of the battery to the posts I no longer use.... So weird.

My motor still beeps on start up. New battery and cleaned up terminals did not change a thing.

Check your shift cable, if out of adjustment this can happen.

Optimax require 1000CCA at least the 200-300's do, I had an 850 CCA and had issues with beeping when I would trim up or down without stopping (like first getting int he water) I have a 1000 and no issues now. Merc's are voltage sensitive.

What size are you running? Get the biggest one that you can fit.

Tested my NEW and fully charged battery and it's not right. CCA and MCA numbers were well below what
They should be.
Need to return battery.
Hopefully that's the end of it.
