Hi all, ordering new boat.Any thoughts or reasons for which side of bow to mount trolling motor on single console boat?
Thanks,

I prefer it opposite of that. Sometimes I anchor off the console side to fish the rivers and fish out of the other side. I don't like the shafts in the way if I or someone's else is sitting on the bow.

I prefer the trolling motor head to be on starboard side so it's out of the way when winching the boat onto the trailer.

I prefer starboard because.

1. I have a single console so this keeps the port side open at the dock.
2. If I am fighting a fish, I can raise the TM with my right hand and fight the fish with my left. It works well because we fish out of the port side most of the time.
3. Because we fish out of the port side the most, we store some things like extra rods on the starboard side. This keeps the port side very clear and clean. When we net a fish (even with the TM up), the starboard side is still open and clear so we can let the net hang over and have a clear area to work on the fish. (Tip, a method to secure the net handle to something really helps. It prevents the net from going over and frees up both hands. We have a small loop of rope in the end of the handle that is clipped into a SS snap on rope on the starboard side.

port side for me, easier to see ahead when under power. safety first IMO.

This! Safety wins over convenience every time.
