I know a lot of guys still have ice on their ponds, but I'm already thinking about Match fishing. I had a ton of fun doing it last year so I figured I'd see if anybody else is interested in doing it again this summer?

I figured Mike would do it again, he's taken darn good care of us the last couple years and I'm greatly appreciative. I'm just getting people thinking early, with the weather being so warm so early we might have another summer of 80?+ water temps where southern guys can't fish during July or August again.

Plus I have a ton of new baits that I made or bought that I'm dying to try out!

I will for sure be in again! It is a lot of fun, Despite the slumps I keep hitting in the playoffs after doing well during the summer lol

So, I see a bunch of you guys (and gals) didn't forget about Match Fishing?! End of March has snuck up on me.

I haven't talked to Steve or Slamr yet, but will do so soon. I've got a lot going on but will talk with them and see what's up.

If you gentlemen would like help let me know. At the very least I could send texts/emails to teams with photo item info. I also work a desk job so my Microsoft Excel skills aren't too shabby.

My partner got hurt in spring and had season tickets at Kinnick stadium in fall so I fished alone most of last year. Still made the final tournament.

Lake Country on the Fly is looking forward to our sophomore season of match fishing. We learned a bit last year, and our lake selection will be different this year. Hoping to crack into the playoffs.

What is match fishing?

Two teams (up to two anglers per team) fish against each other over a 24 hour period on whatever body of water they choose. Fish caught are measured, photographed and released, then the photos are sent to the guy who runs it (Big Mo) and scores are tallied and points are awarded and kept track of. After the 4 qualifying matches a tournament is set up of the best teams and they compete using the same format in a single elimination bracket.

Tons of fun and it's a great excuse to get on the water. I got skunked every match two years ago but did really well last summer, made the playoffs and had a lot of fun.

Slamr and I are working on a couple things related to MatchFishing 2017. In one way or another, I'd expect that it will be rolled out some time in the next 2-3 weeks. There will be a hard deadline for sign up in later April to stay ahead of the southern WI opener May 6 and give us time to prepare. Start planning your involvement now and stay tuned.

For T3clay and anyone else considering a go at MatchFishing, use the search function here to get a good look at last year's competition. There should be a lengthy post by me from last year (March or April?) with rules and requirements shown.

We had 17 teams last year. I was able to adjust the format to accommodate the odd number. But, 16 is easier to set up than 17 and is the minimum needed to make it worthwhile based on historical results and ease of set-up. But, the goal is to ADD teams. That said, the best number after 16 is 24 so spread the word and see if we can make that work.

Last year TI sponsored it and the winning team won a pole and some baits, I got sponsored by Muskie first for taking 2nd last year (won a t-shirt). Once BigMo figures out the details he will post something and let people know how to sign up. Like he said search "matchfishing" and you can look up all the past years results/rules.
