Hi Everyone,

Thinking about getting a "new" truck in the next few months. Wondering how long of a rod you can fit in the cab of a 2015-16 Sierra/Silverado crew cab?

Thanks!

My buddy has a 2015 Sierra and I have a F-150, both crew cab. I can get a 7'2" rod in there. It's a trick, but it can be done. I need to open the passenger or driver door and slide it in between the passenger seat/driver seat and the side of the car on a angle. Hopefully you understand that, I know it wasn't the best explanation. If your just going in through the back doors nothing over 6'6" (and that still requires the rod to bend a little to get it in). Best advice I could give you is BE VERY CAREFUL. I busted the rear cork off my 7'2" rod while I wasn't paying attention. But like I said I had to open the front doors and slide it through that way. What I would recommend is to get a PVC pipe and some pipe insulation and make yourself a rod tube and straps it down in the bed. (Unless you have a cap and don't like driving with it open). Let me know if you have any questions.

P.s. Just so it's clear, the rods aren't bent while in the car. They only need to be bent to go in from the back doors, but once they are in they lay straight.

Would 9' be possible? We've done it with a 2015 F150 crew cab. *fingers crossed*

My dad has one, let me call him and I will experiment tomorrow for you! PVC tube is how I get my big nasty everywhere in my nissan frontier crew cab though so that is definitely a viable option.

Gonna be tight. I can do 8'6 in my quad cab Dodge Ram so with the full crew... you might squeeze a 9 in there. You might have to put the back driver window down, poke the rode out the window, then situate the butt of the rod as far down in the corner as you can cram it, then hopefully that's enough to get the window up lol.

I can get a 9' rod in my '14 GMC crew cab. Just open the back door and slide them up to the front. Works just fine other than it might bother the passenger from time to time.

I can get a 9' in my 2011 Silverado Crew Cab. Similar to posted earlier I put it in the passenger side front door and the tip just barely touches the soft sided wall behind the drivers seat. An 8'9" doesn't touch and sits comfortably.

Crew cab as in the full 4 doors? I have to stick the rod tips out the window in my 09 so they must have made them a hair bigger.

I believe there are 2 types with 4 doors.
"Crew Cab" has a 6' box
"Double Cab" has a 6'6" box
A trade off of box and cab space but look similar.

jakest got it right enter through drivers side rear door run the butts up into the front passenger foot well as far up into the corner as possible and should be able to fit inside truck up into the rear drivers side top corner...worse case gotta crack wwindow put tip out but I think you could fit them...this is why I love the avalanche escalade EXT trucks you lay back seats down rear bed is still covered and I can lay a 10ft rod down no problem

9' rods fit in my Chevy from the rear drivers door to the floor on the passenger side. Gotta bend the tip to get it past the rear side of the door jam, but a few inches to spare once it's inside. It isn't practical for there to be a passenger in the front seat tho.

I've got a 15' Sierra and fit 9' Rods and 9' fly rods in my cab. It can be a little tight with baitcasting rods but totally doable

Excellent. Exactly what I was looking for. I sometimes run out to shore fish metro lakes after work and don't want to leave $5-800 setups sitting in my box exposed while I'm working.

Thanks everyone!

Sorry, I normally have somebody in the passenger seat. You could defiantly fit at least 8'6" in there if your going that way.

8'6" will fit from passenger to driver side in a 2015 Silverado Double cab.  9' not so much.

Rod length was considered for a new vehicle. I had a 16' 4" "light" boat, and my 2005 Hyundai Santa Fe was surprisingly very good. All rods in the cabin, no problem. I got a heavier 16' 4", and towing wasn't so nice. I went with a Toyota 4Runner, and all is well with the World. 5000 lb. max, and probably 4000 lb. acceptable. I do trips without the boat, and tie up with friends with a boat, as many of you might well do. I had a 2000 Silverado, and besides being a high maintenance vehicle, it eventually got old as a daily driver. 8' 2"-6'??? no problem, but that was with no passenger. Colorados/Tundras your rods would need to have the name Brunswick on them to fit in the cabin. Garcia makes a nice 8'+++ 2 piece, which is an option for runs without the boat.

Meeting with my pops this weekend, I'm sure others were correct but I will chime in with the results of my experiment once completed!

I have a 14 Sierra Crew Cab, I had an 8,8'6 and 9 ft in my cab, gotta watch how you put them in and be creative but they do fit. I love the truck. The 8 and 8'6 sit on the floor fine and tips near rear window, the big nasty I slid in from the back door with it open.

Glad I m not the only one thinking about this. We bought an Acadia because I can fit 9'6'' rods if need be in it. Sales guy asked why the tape measure when we were looking a new SUV. My wife looked at him and said he needs space for his rods and its really important. The look on the guys face was priceless.

A convertible corvette. Might as well sell the rods and buy golf clubs, and a subscription to Men's Vogue.

My research is in, 8'6" is what I'd be comfortable with but as krone kgonefishin had said, I could get the big nasty in from the back door but it was a little much and the tip was bent a little. If you don't mind that then 9' but I'd be too worried. Mostly because I'm nodded about my gear... I almost cried when the restoration company moved all of my rods and reels lol

What are you saying Jake?

I have a convertible Corvette and bought home a 9' Legend Elite in it. Top down of course.

I have a Ram 1500 crew cab and I can do 9' rods, although I have to bend the tip a little bit to get past the rear seat headreset (it sits straight after I pull it past it). I've found that having a power sliding rear window is a huge help, being able to stick them through the passenger door/window, out the back sliding window, then setting the rod butts on the floorboard allows the rod tips to slide back inside the cab.

Before I moved from an Expedition to a F150, I brought rods with to the dealer to see if I could fit them in the back of the F150 (9'3" rods, but telescoping). The guy thought I was nuts. Ended up getting the supercrew with a 6'5" bed and they fit perfect. He should remember that trick though as I'm sure it was a more expensive truck than I started looking at lol.

For the bed of my truck, I've put an 8' rod rack. Better to place it on sturdy near the headache rack for support, others place it near the tailgate. There are truck accessories you can readily buy but if you would do a DIY, you may use PVC pipes and wood.

Ended up buying a 2014 crew cab sierra. I can fit 9 footers from the back, driver side door down to the deepest part of the front, passenger side foot area.

Rods are not bent during travel.
