Posts: 735 Location: Apparently where the Muskie aren't | Anybody do any open water fishing yet? Muskie or not I thought it'd be nice to see how everyone's 2017 season is starting. Thanks, and good luck.

Posts: 105 Location: Jane Lew, WV | I've fished about a half dozen times. I caught my first musky trolling Stonewall early February and I got one casting a river a couple weeks back. Going to get back after it Sunday. Ready for the time change to get that extra bit during the week as well.

Posts: 841 Location: Southwest PA | I was just about to get the boat out this weekend... then the weather turned. Whatever, I'll be shore bound! Can't wait to start, what have the guys who were out already been having luck with? I am on the fence whether I should dramatically downsize or not... thinking regular bulldawgs and 8's perhaps. Possibilities are endless!

Posts: 841 Location: Southwest PA | Casted for a couple hours, mostly top waters and a couple cranks... I was fishing the mouths of a couple feeder streams on the river from shore but had no luck. Thank God for petroleum jelly, kept the ice of of my guides. The calcutta had its trial run and I'm pretty happy with it, another good day!

Posts: 735 Location: Apparently where the Muskie aren't | I know it's already late but I'll be going out tomorrow. Sadly, the lake I'm going to doesn't have muskie ): but it has some nice pike 30"+ (it's Illinois, they are decent for here). Anyone got any tips. I was thinking 4" phantoms, mini medusas and small buck tails with a hopping retrieve. Anyone notice any patterns, muskie or pike, they probably act similar this time of year. Thanks!

Posts: 841 Location: Southwest PA | I've always had luck on eppinger daredevles and red eye wigglers for pike. Especially the weed less daredevles! Red and white or five diamond colors have been the ticket for myself. Don't chase the pike enough so I don't know whether or not time of year comes into play... hope you land a big guy brother!
