Posts: 770 | Last year was my oldest son's (8yoa) first season fishing with me. To start the season off i picked up a heavy duty spinning outfit for him amd loaded it up with power pro. He cant fish all day, and he cant cast all that far, but he does pretty good. Last july we were fishing a spot when the wind picks up and the clouds roll in. Minutes later the rain starts and im prepairing for the "i want to go home"s to start. Well to my surprise he continues to cast in the rain (no rain gear). About half hour in i hear him shout "I GOT ONE" this doesnt peak my intrest too much because its a pretty common phrase for every tree, rock, or weed his bait hits. However , the sound of thrashing water imediatly following does peak my intrest. I look over my shoulder to see him hooked up with a fish at boatside, fish has its head out of the water and is all over the place, i start coaching as i grab the net and land the fish "THAT THINGS HUGE" are the only words out of his mouth while we practice CPR. a few pics and shes back in the water. Fish measured 36" and man i wish i got that excited about a fish that size. One of my proudest moments! We have A few things we will continue to work on this year, including holding the fish correctly. But that was the start to a great day. I ended up taking him home when the storm hit and headed back out that evening and put 2 more in the boat. The first 3 fish day in my boat.
