I felt a little adventurous and took a glider and applied some goldleaf.
Anyone who has done this have advise for applying eyes? Can I glue them down without worrying about the goldleaf pulling or should I paint the eyes on?

Clearcoat it once or twice first, then you can glue your eyes on and clear until done.
