Posts: 81 Location: Knot on the WATER | Hoping some one out there can help as advice, Ordering a new 2017 FS21, Verado pro300, I have always had kickers on all my last few VS Fisherman boats, debating the new 12' dual Talons in place of the kicker, will have the Ultera as my trolling motor. Dual Talons compared to kicker is a wash at cost. Wondering can you keep the boarding ladder with the install? And any positive advice on anyone having Talons? I worry I fish off the rear deck getting in the way, especially when you get a 50 on, they own there route around the boat at times, worried in being in the way. Any info appreciated. Thanks..

And the negative of having just 1 shallow water anchor are overrated. You learn how to position your boat with just 1 Talon. Even if I didn't want to put a kicker on, I wouldn't get a 2nd Talon since I don't think it is worth the cost.

Posts: 457 Location: Minneconia | I'm still trying to figure out how to mount one of em on my 620FS with Vrod no jackplate with kicker but still keep ladder. Haven't seen it done yet. If you can figure it out please share photos.

Posts: 1209 | Dual tallons for me. But I don't want or use a kicker. As far as mounting and keeping the ladder it should all be easy to do. I don't think I've ever felt like the anchors would be in my way, maybe a 10 year old sure...

Posts: 457 Location: Minneconia | It's not easy to do and keep full use of the ladder...in fact I haven't seen it done on an FS yet.

Haven't seen it done yet. If you can figure it out please share photos. There is a bracket called the "sandwich bracket" that will mount between the engine and transom. This brancket is identical to the jackplate bracket except for how it attaches to the boat. The bracket also includes a spacer block for the opposite side of the engine if only installing one bracket/Talon. Posts: 457 Location: Minneconia | Yeah I've looked at that. The two issues are: Mercury explicitly says no sandwich brackets with their motors This still renders the boarding ladder useless when there is a kicker on the other side.

Posts: 81 Location: Knot on the WATER | all, appreciate the input, I have only a few days left to when I have to decide. Ive had some feed back from those who like theres, and some who wouldn't have them again. Still undecided, but your input was considered very helpfull. I have to weigh my plus's from my woes and decide soon.

Posts: 284 Location: Eagan, MN | Congrats on being in a position to purchase such a dream rig! With that said, I'd go kicker for sure. As a musky guy, one shallow water anchor should be enough. The kicker is both a safety and versatility feature, allowing you not only to get home if something happens to your big motor but also available for when you want to troll or maybe even take a quiet evening put-put cruise with friends or family. In lieu of the ladder, use the trim/tilt on your big motor to get you back in the boat in the event of an accidental dunking.

Posts: 1209 | There are products that attach to a tallon to add an emergency ladder. First link. http://www.bbcboards.net/showthread.php?t=735283 http://www.bbcboards.net/showthread.php?t=755595 The second link is a sweet light I would use rather than the pole in the aft of the boat. I don't know nor care if it would work for people who have to have coast guard checks....

Posts: 84 | Its your boat rig it how you want. I have my boat with a kicker and boarding ladder and I like that if I want to stay positioned I push anchorlock on my Minnkota Terrarova trolling motor.

Posts: 81 Location: Knot on the WATER | will post a pict soon as I get it. SBj42, yes I did think a lot about that, but my old boat did have a ultera with spot lock, on windy days yes it does sway of a few feet, and on trying to rebound it always swings your boat position due to wind etc, with the talon at least on wind points I will have the boat positioned without the swinging around, heard some fisherman deploy there talon also with spot lock to hold close to exact boat position, will find out soon I hope. Thanks all

See attached pictures Do you guys think you could mount a small kicker motor to a bracket like these brackets for the Talons? Like a 5hp or max a 9.9??

Posts: 1209 | The brackets are very stoudt and n use it will be fine with 9.9 hp wide open, it's the weight while running the big motor that will with out doubt bend it...
