Posts: 104 | After this last cold front all the fish have seemed to have moved to 30' and I'm struggling. I'm looking for advice on how to fish for them that deep? Thanks

Posts: 104 | Thanks John, I was trying the Bondy bait and as luck would have it I caught a snag and lost it before I got any action. Waiting for more to come in stock at MTO...

Posts: 718 | Great. Right now the Detroit River is the color of the lower Mississippi which allowed me to ship a 65 lb box to MTO yesterday and another today. Thanks for trying them!

Posts: 558 | /\ what he said. 30 feet is really not that deep. Double your boat length and that is most likely deeper than 30. Edited by Musky Face 11/26/2016 6:42 PM

Posts: 688 Location: Northern IL | Catching muskies in 30' or deeper is not difficult. The problem if there is one is you must be much more exact in where you present your lures or bait. The deeper we go the more difficult it is to interpret productive structure. Trolling a 9" Ernie, JB1 or an equivalent running lure will reach 30' with 85'-90' with wire line.

Posts: 104 | Thanks for all the replies. I guess I should of been a little more specific. The fish and bait balls are all concentrated at 30' in 40' - 75' of water off of points, breaks or along the dam.

It's really almost too light for a lake situation since there's no current to help keep it vertical. I jig it in 15-25' and you've got to go slow to keep it vertical .5 - .8 mph seems to be the sweet spot.

Posts: 104 | Well I'm going off my sonar. All the bait balls and arches are showing at that depth. I'm no longer contacting fish shallow or in the 6'-12' range so I'm trying to locate them in the open water and that's what I'm seeing on my graph.

Posts: 718 | If you're seeing arches that deep around bait just drop a jig right on them and it shouldn't take long.

Posts: 306 | Could also be lakers, pike, or walleye you are seeing. Last year's trip was slow, so I started fishing the deeper fish on radar. Ended up with several big pike and 25"+ walleyes (it was fun putting my name on the walleye wall-of-fame with a musky lure!) but no muskies, using a countdown depth raider. I'd count to 20 before starting a slow retrieve. Had something on twice that ran drag like a saltwater reel, but it spit the lure out both times, too. The mysteries of the deep...

Where you seeing 75 feet deep water? but yea slow moving baits deep big rubber pop bounce lil harder when they 30-40 down in 75ft not having the bottom to find might have to mark line to know depth in this situation

Location: MN | My buddy went to Canada on a lake trout trip last winter and caught two Muskies through the ice. Can't remember the depth but I'm sure it was 50+. He is a member on here so maybe he'll chime in with specifics. He said they were chasing kinda like lakers which was surprising. The fish were from two different lakes too which was impressive. Lower 40 and a 50. It was a basin bite but they were a way too deep to sight fish.
