Hi,

As a beginning builder I would like to know the various methods used to secure a diving lip into a wood blank. The answers to these questions will speed me along. I know that I can screw one in on the outside but am interested how lips are secured into a precut wood slot. Are there different procedures used for aluminum or plastic? I know some use a screw and a epoxy glue. (I suspect a few use Gorilla Glue.) Can either aluminum or plastic be glued on its own? Are plastic diving lips strong enough for line tie connections? Is there a recommended size or grade of aluminum or plastic that I should use? I am interested in turning out a couple Musky cranks using probably cedar wood.
Any assistance would be appreciated.

I just use devcon 2 ton epoxy to glue my lip in aluminum or lexan. I sand the section on lip to be glued just to roughen it up for better adhesion. Lexan lip are strong enough for line tie to go through. Do not use plexiglass.
