I'm out on a lake (in MN)dragging meat and wishing I could cast at the same time. Would it be legal to drag a hookless sucker while casting?

Jeremy Smith did it on one of those monster quest shows shows one time (not sure what the show was). He had suckers out because it was after the season and they wanted to show people a muskie. You could probably get away with it in court if a CO tried busting you.

How do you even rig a sucker hookless?

Disclaimer: Not a MN resident or expert on MN regs by any means.
With that said some friends and I fish in MN a few times a year. We were up the first weekend in October and this topic came up as we were casting and had a number of follows but could not get any to convert. We stopped at the local bait-shop after pulling the boat and asked the owner who fishes muskie pretty regularly and he said "Not legal". Regs say "One line per angler." period.

Whether that is the DNR gospel or not..... I don't know.

He's your pet and it's a leash and you're just taking him for his daily swim.

Just ask the MN DNR.  Go right to the source.

I like the pet sucker response. That's what I'll go with.

You cold do what this guy did:

The DNR warden showed up and started checking licenses as he was packing up his gear. They checked his license and then noticed the bucket of fish he had sitting next to his truck.

"Sir, I see you are in possession of several undersized fish."

"Oh.. Those? Those aren't my fish. Well, okay they ARE, but... those are my pet fish. I bring them down here a couple times a week and turn them loose so they can swim around. Then when they are done, I put the bucket in the water and call them back. They swim back into the bucket and I take them home. Here, watch!"

*Splash!*

"Okay, sir. Now let me see how you call those fish back and make them swim back in the bucket."

"fish? WHAT fish?"

You could engrave silver tail gunners with a pet name (princess, swimmy, etc) so it's obvious it's a pet?

Dalberg had an episode where he caught muskies on suckers with no hooks in them. Just let them swallow the whole thing. Used a rubber band through the nose.

It would be 100% illegal, as Minnesota law is 1 line per angler, hooks or not.
