Here in western PA hard to come by bigger suckers. Creek chubs are all over there are suckers in the river but I dont live by river to get them. I do get a bunch of creek chubs most are 3"-7" and I have a tank in my basement..Have about 150 chubs right now but not lot of big ones. I do have a few that are 8-11" I was gonna use these since I cant get big suckers what do you guys think. Was also thinking carp but havent had much luck finding them either.

Can you order big suckers anywhere for delivery?

Do you think a 9" creek chub big enough on small quick strike rig?

Should work just fine with a small QS rig. Can't tell you the number of muskies my dad caught on 11 inch suckers. And, chub's are much hardier than suckers! Good luck.

I think they will work just fine.

Look up Lee Tauchen's Youtube video "Late fall muskie snacks". They will definitely eat smaller meals at times.

Muskellunge love to eat other fish!

I miss the days of fishing for Creek Chubs in the ghetto. When they max out... they remind me of Rainbow Trout.

Good luck. Let us know how you do.

Your set-up sounds awesome. Any pictures?

Not to say that creek chubs don't work, but I tried them once because they only had one sucker left at the bait shop. Pulled around chubs all day and finally put on the sucker at the end of the day a caught one. That's my only experience.

He is pic if it works never posted pic....also have added fitting too attach hose to bottom to drain and refill very easily...I change water about every 3-5 weeks depending how many are in there. Before I added filtration had to change water every week.. love the set up when you wanna fish bait is there and ready...

I do some crappie fishing too so I made the mistake of putting about 30 fat heads and 20 shiners in with them and they killed and ate them all shiners and fat heads unbelievable..

SO now I have small 10 gallon tank next to that one for left over fat heads from fishing and have them ready next trip

You can't get suckers around me and I know a guy that uses creek chubs. Says they are more hardy then the sucker and he has had some luck with them. How they compare to a sucker I don't know.

Amazing!

I used to use a 5 gallon bucket myself... had to check on them all the time. Funny how they are so much like Largemouth Bass when it comes to behavior... especially in the wild. They will even hit artificial lures. I just caught them for fun though... Never used them as bait. I think I was like, 9 years old. The populations of Creek Chubs in northern Illinois is nothing like it used to be. Kinda sad...

Thanks again.

Creek chubs are excellent bait for muskie, especially in the West Virginia river systems. Suckers shared the same water, but yet we seemed to have better luck with the Chubs in the 6"-10" range.

Used to fish them as a kid myself, and I would literally use my perch, and trout fishing equipment. They are very aggressive indeed! We would fish for them all day sometimes.

25homes what do you want to know about WV?

Would like to know of some decent places to musky fish in WV...somewhere within 40 min of wheeling or within 30 min of Morgantown and direction on any of these....I live in Western pa ABOUT 5 min from WV border to west of me and about 20 min from border to South of me. Justr wanting some decent spots to go musky fish...only been hitting alleghany river and hard to find time to get North far enough to get to the better fishing. IMO really need to get up above the lock 9 into the open section of the alleghany to get into the good musky fishing

Get the book "A Compilation of Muskie Fishing Stories from the Mountain State" by Jim Wetzel. Will clue you in on many fine muskie waters in WV!

I'm not really familiar with the Wheeling area, as I am located in central WV about an hour south of Morgantown. I typically fish Stonecoal and Stonewall Jackson lakes. Stonecoal has the length and weight records and Stonewall has a 52" minimum. Both are located 15 minutes from me. I've only a handful of rivers that I fish, never fished Dunkard, but maybe someone else can weigh in on that. If you ever find yourself south of the Clarksburg area and are wanting to fish, just let me know.

I like it a lot, from what I've read it is very similar to Cave Run just a heck of a lot smaller. Shad based lake with an old river channel running through it. I have been having some difficulty as of late on it, not sure what is going on. You let me know when you wanna go and will make it happen.

What u got is what you need around here with all the motor limits and the skinny water I hardly ever use big motor and older fiberglass boat some times pain on some of the smaller waters around here. It is my first boat didn't realize all this until fishing it all season

Creek chubs are awesome baits! Super lively & always freak when a fish is close. I once caught 5 pike on the same one tip-up fishing before it broke in half & I couldn't use it anymore. Single hook top lip & 2/0 or 3/0 treble seems about the biggest you can go with them. I used to make a couple special rigs for the smaller minners to give them a much bigger profile. One I would use a coil of flashabou or silicone skirt above the single hook. You could also tie flash right on the single hook. The other rig I used those saltwater squids. I tied a bit of flash on a coil then a few beads above it and then the squid. Put that right above the single hook on the quick strike rig & shazam! 6" chub has a footlong profile
