Anyone have issues with the Plastic peg that holds the tail breaking inside the shallow invader, was wondering if Muskie innovations would replace it. Has happened a few times to me. Many on the first fish with it

Bought my first Shallow Invader recently and just a couple hours in the peg broke. Did not catch a fish or anything with it. Apparently that is a common problem? Is there any way to fix it? Between that and the tail sometimes needing replacement, it seems somewhat disposable unfortunately.

Another question: what is a robust alternative to the bait? Something that runs real shallow, does well with speed and twitching, and has a size/weight/pull that makes casting it for hours doable. I've tried Big Game 8" surface twitch which seems pretty nice but the lip broke on mine, again fairly early on.

I'd like to know how a fish can take the tail without a hookup. Geez

They will likely replace it. Musky Innovations has always been great to deal with on customer service. Not found a real alternative to the shallow invader. For me if I could only have one muskie lure the rest of my life that'd be it.

I've never had any issues with them falling off but it kinda comes with the territory for mixed material baits. Talk to the manufacturer and see if they will help you out.

I've been pulling the same shallow invader for 3 years and the tail still kicks. You may have just gotten a manufacturing defect, which unfortunately does happen at times.

I had the same problem with one and what I did was to drill two very small holes through the hard plastic AND the tail. I then epoxied the tail in place and took a couple of small sections of bucktail wire and threaded it through the holes. To finish I slightly bent the ends of the wires and snipped them off with a very short tag end. I was a bit worried about adding too much weight but I had previously removed the rear hook and upsized to a 7/0 front hook with an added split ring and noticed no appreciable difference in buoyancy.

Hmm I had a tail fall or when twitching it, unfamiliar to how it was attached till now.

Had the same issue happen a few years back and emailed Brad Ruh and he had a new lure on my doorstep in a few days. I did though rig up the one with the broken post with a dowel screw to hold the tail on. Runs a little deeper but it still works.

I had the same issue straight out of the package never even in the water. I emailed brad he sent a replacement. I also took the broken peg and epoxied it back into the bait and it has been holding great ever since with 5min devcon.

Several good tips in here - thank you.

I don't see any contact information on the Musky Innovations website. How do you contact them? Facebook?

Another fix. Take the tail off new ones and put some gorilla glue on the bottom portion and around the ridge above that pin. Gorilla glue expands slightly and won't add as much weight as wire.

You'll have no problem getting a Shallow Invader replacement from Musky Innovations. There are new blanks just starting to hit the market that have a stabilizer to help with pin issues.

I did contact Mr. Ruh and he sent me a replacement within a couple days. Can't complain about that kind of customer service!
