I'm ordering a new boat with a 150 hp pro xs. I want to run 3 Helix 9's, a radio, power steering, livewells, ect. All of these will run off of an AGM battery. My question is, will I have enough power left to start the motor after a day on the water with a 9.9 pro kicker charging the battery?

you're going to leave the kicker running all day? sounds like a costly situation.

I can't imagine you'll have any problems. I've run a number of boats with similar battery draws and never had a problem at the end of the day. I would suggest getting the largest battery you can physically fit in the space available however.

this may sound like a silly question but why not just add a battery for the extras and not worry about the motor not starting due to amp draw from the extras?

I thought about that but I have a 36v trolling motor already. Not sure I want to take up storage space.

I would make sure to put in a Group 31 size battery for the extra reserve capacity. See how that operates and check your battery level after an average day of fishing.

Don't you need a seperate battery for the big tiller system?

From all of the research I have done so far, some use the second battery, some dont. I'm open for suggestions? Lol

Yes, you will have trouble....sooner or later with one battery. Those graphs and power steering pump draw a lot of power and the 9.9 does not produce enough output to sufficiently charge the starting battery. Any dealership worth their weight in salt will no longer rig a power steered tiller with only 1 battery.

Thanks Pat. While not what I really wanted to hear, I guess maybe I needed too. My dealer has not sold many, if any of this size tiller. I believe this is a learning experience for him as well. There just isn't many big tillers around here. Any and all suggestions are appreciated.

Sorry, no experience on your battery question with power steering, but what boat are you getting? Big tillers are COOL.

I'm ordering a 620T. Everything I've read on them says they are weight placement sensitive. Guess we'll find out...

Congrats on the 620T! You'll love that boat. They are pretty weight sensitive but if my memory serves me correctly, after 2009 they moved the 36 volt trolling motor batteries to the front of the boat but I could certainly be wrong with that assumption. I know a few guys that were doing that anyways to get some of batteries out of the rear compartment to help the boat out with weight distribution. Feel free to shoot me a P.M. if you have any other questions. I've been in bug tillers for 16 years of every major brand. Enjoy the buying process!

I recently had to replace my starting battery, I got a group 31 AGM. I have a 620 ranger but a console steer. What Ive done to not let the starting battery run down is periodioctly run the big outboard because it charges much more. So far haven't been dead in the water with the big outboard not starting. Also I carry a set of jumper cables to jump off my trolling motor batteries I did have to do this once and It saved me. A guide told this tip. I know a lot boats don't have room for extra batteries so you have to make sure the batteries you got are top notch. I know I wouldn't want to be stuck out there when a big lightning storm comes rolling in and you want to get off the lake quick.

Good call on the jumper cables. I carry them too. I hadn't used them in xx years but this past week on LOTW near dark 15 miles out I needed them. In the end it turned out to be the Alternator on my Big Motor was not putting out enough voltage, good thing for Warranties.

Things like Jumper cables in a boat should be standard practice IMO.

Have a good day guys and be safe so you can enjoy the fun again.

you should have the big mtr and power trim on one separate batt that is charged by the alternator and the steering pump, acc's,etc separate and charged by your 4th bank and by the kicker if you have one.
