So I've read a bunch about burning blades to entice fish. But I fish quite alot I have a cabin in Minaki and the water is pretty clear. I have yet to have a follow when scorching them in. I have a tranx Hg and am pretty fit guy. I can get these blades ripping pretty darn fast. Just wondering if maybe when burning them I'm possibly going to fast? Just wondering on other people's perspective

No, if the fish are wanting fast....you can NEVER go too fast, ever. You can't "outreel" a muskie. If they want it, they'll eat it.

definitely not going too fast, even at top speed casting you are actually only bringing them in 2.5 to 3.5 mph believe it or not... at times they want the speed, other times you have to go slower ...keep on burning...

Sounds good... And to be honest hasn't felt like there have been many days that bucktails seem to be the way to go this year so far. Catching and seeing alot more fish with other methods. Love fishing bucktails but so far this year they have been letting me down!

Sometimes you need to slow down to get them to engage the bait,  then burn 'em to trigger a strike.

I don't think people say or do this enough. When I finally figured out when to speed up and slow down baits are started to put many more fish in the boat. This could be relating to a figure 8 topic as well.

Are you trying different colors and sizes?

Yes I do.... But mostly in the range from 8's to 10's....but do not throw colourful bucktails. Mostly natural colours and darker coloured

Never really been a true believer in colour on a bucktail tho.... To me the vibration that it gives off is what is the attraction. Not sure that if you zip a yellow or a black bucktail over a fished head. That colour matters. I definitely could be wrong. Just my opion

You are wrong. Color is definitely a deciding factor. I've seen this too many times in my 77 yrs. to discount it out of hand.

Now that is an interesting point...color. I really want to say that color matters, because I've seen it matter in my boat. But there are times and bodies of water where I don't think it matters all that much. I think that Bill Sandy up in LOTW uses one bucktail until it is destroyed, then puts another one on. I don't think that color is all that important there, but I'm also guessing that he uses traditional colors, like blacks and natural colors.

To me? I think it is a little important to the fish and more important to the angler. Certain guys will have more confidence in certain colors and confidence has a lot to do with a bait. Cadence, how often it is used, when it is used...etc.

I've fished quite a bit up by Minaki - my folks have a cabin on Harbour Island and I usually make it up there a week or two per summer. I have also tried burning bucktails up there and never had any success. On numerous occasions I've tried throwing back at fish that followed with either (1) the exact same bucktail they followed but burned (2) same type but different color burned, or (3) a smaller bucktail burned. I've never had any luck converting and only had a couple follows with that approach. Several times I could not get another follow, but then after switching to something else I was able to. To put it in perspective, up there I've caught 15-20 fish on double 10s reeled in at a moderate pace and 10-12 fish by throwing back at followers - not a giant sample size so it could be coincidence I guess, but it's definitely not something I have confidence in.

To me it is a very hard thing to determine, is what I'm getting at. Going back to a fish spotted with a different colour and the fish hits. How do we as anglers know that it was the colour and just not the location of the cast. When it is clear that sometimes it takes just the right cast to make a fish move. My only point is I believe it's very hard to us figure out if it was the colour or just that specific cast. Maybe I need to try more variations of colours tho. Maybe it will make a difference
