Posts: 815 Location: Waukee, IA | I really like fishing Clear Lake in North Iowa, but despite the name it's far from clear. Good visibility is 3' and when it's bad visibility is around 16" or worse. The pleasure boat traffic that this lake receives is also pretty substantial. Is it worth fishing at night here? I have had nothing but bad luck fishing after dark even on very clear bodies of water so the extra stain gives me pause for concern. You guys ever do any good night fishing on stained water?

Posts: 556 | I fish quite a few lakes that are that IRON stain colored--Maybe like TEA Color !!! I have had poor results while night fishing them---have caught a couple---But I have had much better results during the light hours on these waters...

Location: Contrarian Island | 2-3' feet isn't overly stained... there are times in Madison that the algae bloom is so bad visibility is 12-18" and they have no problems finding baits at night... put 6 in the boat 1 night this year when the water clarity was 18" at best...their lateral line is amazing..think of it this way, look how fat river fish get and they can see what, 6"... don't let it deter you...muskies are muskies, they feed at night, in clear or dirty water... Posts: 2687 Location: Hayward, WI | I used to fish a pretty stained lake (actually a "flowage") that would get a pretty bad algae bloom too. We caught several fish there an hour or more after dark. Always shallow water, like 3-5 foot bars. Topwater was great and spinnerbaits caught a handful too. Never fished well into the night, but certainly caught fish when it was dark out.
