Most recent info I found on the subject was back in March.....have heard mixed reviews from various sources. So, I ask the "experts"....can I bring eggs to Canada?

Is the following what you found in March? If so, I'm not sure how easy it is to have the proper proof where the eggs originated from.

Thanks for reminding me to avoid any crossing problems with eggs. I'll buy them in Canada like I did last year.

Was there in May. I thought I heard eggs from Indiana were banned and you needed a receipt. We just bought them when we crossed to save the hassle.

Make sure they don't hatch up there, you'll have a hell of a time getting them back into the states.

I am currently in Canada. We bought our eggs when we crossed the border. We were not asked if we had any. I just figured they were still banned.

We were there two weekends ago and brought eggs with us. They didn't ask at the border.

Just called the border crossing at IF and the person I talked to said no restrictions on food items. I asked about chicken, eggs & taters he said only restriction is to bring a reasonable amount for your stay

Adam - That is a terrible plan! I have seen you fish many times and you should never travel all the way to Canada banking on catching your food for the trip!

Ha! Too true! We had 40mph winds and ice coming in sideways one year and couldn't get on the water. Our meals were:

Breakfast- Jerky and High Life
Lunch- 5 bags of chips and High Life
Dinner- Busch Light...we ran out of High Life.

I hardly ever eat breakfast, and while in Canada I do as you suggest. I'm taking my wife this year and she's more particular with breakfast. If a dozen eggs will keep her happy, I'll smuggle them across the border!

Sounds like eggs aren't the issue they were last season.

They do in fact sell eggs in many parts of Canada. we have purchased them at Ft Francis, Dryden and even Ear Falls. They tasted remarkably very similar to the ones we get here at the local food store.

Good luck

Indeed. Normally shop in Dryden (the Safeway across from Pronger's arena is great....especially the Bueno bars and Canadian rye bread)when I go that way. I don't remember a grocery store on the way to Morson crossing in Baudette. I'm sure there likely is something, but with the short travel distance it's easier to pack here.

There is a small store in Morson but the prices are sky high. If. You are inFregus or Alex then buying there is the way To go.

I didn't remember seeing much up that way. I'm smack dab in between Alex and Fergus. The wife already has a list of food longer than I normally pack! Oh well.

Mike...we're heading up to Wabigoon next week, so I've been looking into that as well. This was the most recent report I have found. It looks like only poultry/ eggs from Indiana are under the ban--at least as of when this link was posted. Good luck!

So what is wrong with our eggs that makes them not allowed as opposed to other states?

Big bird flu problem in 2015 millions of chickens & turkeys were destroyed to prevent the spread. I sure Canada didn't want it coming in on some eggs.

There is a store in Rainy River just after crossing the border which is where I suspect you are crossing. It will be on the south side of the road. I want to say Beaver market?

I find it interesting that for a group of folks who spend untold amounts of money on enormous quantities of gear, not to mention 60k trucks, and 90k boats, would find issue with possibly paying $3 CDN for a dozen eggs............

In 23 posts I see one that mentioned high prices. So not sure who the "group" of folks is that you are referring to. For some people it's just not an option as far as when they cross the border and what's open. Because of the ban on eggs last year, I switched to using buttermilk for the batter, and it works as well or better, and is more convenient.

Crossed with a dozen eggs with no issue. Must have been my $25k jeep and $13k boat that gave away that I was poor and couldn't afford eggs across the border.

For the guy going to Wabigoon, just stop at Safeway by the ice arena. Nice grocery store. Find some Bueno bars in the candy isle. You'll thank me later.

If I had a $60,000 truck and a $90,000 boat I would probably stay somewhere with an American plan. If don't mind spending $ if I need something but I don't mind spending less if I can. I don't know what eggs cost in Canada don't care my comment was in response to a question about a store in Morson.

I was never asked, and was holding, guilty as they come! Next week, I'll be at the Musky Hunter outing at Sandy's Blackhawk Island trying to put a dent in what they feed you there. Honestly, I've never been served so much great food in my life. Even the snacks they give you for the boat are just "ridiculous!" It'll be back to Overeaters Anonymous for me after that week. Oh my God, there's a lot of food there!
