Looking for some recommendations on what twisting machine to buy for making bucktails and spinnerbaits? I'd really appreciate responses from people who have actually had experience with such and such model, rather than the typical "try this or that site...". There appears to be a lot of choices out there so I'm hoping to get some ideas and pros/cons.

Thanks in advance men. Fish on!

Are you going to be making them in bulk, or for yourself?

That's the question.  If you're making more than a few on a regular basis, I use the Hagen's.  Also depends on the wire you're using.  There's a few out there, but they only go up to .041.

I've made hundreds of them with knipex round nose pliers and a pair of vice grips. About 90% of them on .062

If the wire is long enough you can make them with round pliers. I have used a boggs tackle maker and likeven it. You can get different pins for different sized wire.

I use a Du Bro Bucktail Twister. I only make & rebuild a few per year for myself, family, & friends. It's not for a bucktail manufacturer, but works fine for my needs. There's a good instructional video on U Tube that proved very helpful.

I use the Hagen's bender with the parts for the .051" wire & have done some with .062" wire. I also have some Knipex round nose but with the carpal tunnel & arthritis in man hands it hurts too much to bend .051" by hand.

I do a lot of buck tail and spinnerbait making! I also use a Hagens up to .055 wire.  ANother option is just a nail in a good vise works just fine.

Tip if you are doing it by hand with 0.51 wire. Start your loop with at least 3 inches of wire to work with. This will make it easier to get your 3 twists, and enough to twist, rather than cut, the tag off.

ARmuskyaddict have you had any issue with them coming undone? I use .051 wire and usually do 2-3 twists but I've had a couple of buck tails made by Spankys at the musky expo and he only does 1 wrap and sometimes not a full wrap. Spankys does use the thicker wire so that maybe why

I now do 3 wraps. Never had an issue with the 2 wraps, but I don't want to find out.
