Following a conversation with a Tuffy pro staff member I have been considering purchasing a Tuffy 1890 or 2100. Currently I have a 2015 Ranger Reata 1850LS and although this is a great family boat it is not a big water boat as it was described. The things I like about the Ranger is the large beam. The bow is large enough to to have two fishing but the aft deck is to narrow to fish from and the jump seats are cumbersome when standing to cast. The boat is difficult to control in wind when trolling. The rod storage does not fit the multi-species tag this boat has since it only accommodates rods up to 7'6" which is not all that easy to remove rods from. In addition the wiring in the boat has been more than troublesome. On more than a handful occasions the wiring in the bow to the motor trim would get wet causing the trim to raise the motor out of the water causing a couple scary situations, trip cancellations and one disqualification unable to get back to weigh-in on time.

I am looking for improvements in the downfalls of the Ranger and a boat that maintains the strengths I like.

If anyone has a Tuffy 1890 or 2100 please reply to this thread. I want to know about the ability to entertain the family. Also please include the motor size and brand you have.

I have an 1890 tiller and have had zero problems with it in fact imo I think it's one of the best boats out great big water boat and still get into smaller water as well. And Tuffys customer service is great

I'm in the same boat, literally.

The Tuffy electrical system was custom designed for Fiberdome, and works very well. Both the 1890 and 2100 are good big water hulls, but the 2100 truly shines on the Great Lakes and similar waters. Both have wide beams to offer and large front decks, with the 'Esox Deep V' deck available in either for a big removable deck in the rear. Both control well in the wind. Rods lockers are certainly big enough to satisfy muskie anglers.

Tuffy builds fishing boats, but the deep V models can easily pull skiers and tubes and the like.

As far as the Ranger goes, it sounds like the multi-use features and design is what your main issue is. Wiring can be an issue in any boat, which is one of the reasons why boat companies offer warranties.

Check out a Ranger 619. New ones have 8.5 foot rod lockers. Old ones aren't quite that large, but you can cut off the ends of the rod tubes and get rods up to 9 feet in the locker. I did that to mine and it works great.

Still get the huge deck in front that is a dream to fish out of. Back end of boat is nice and open for trolling, or you can throw a casting deck on there.

Great big water boat. Dry ride. Tons of room to get around. Yet small enough to get into small lakes. Can easily pull skiers or tubers. My has a 225 Optimax. With two people it is a 54.5 mph boat. And it is a very nice ride. Cruises great at 33-40 too.

And wind? Those 619's sit nice in the water and I haven't had wind really catch them yet. About the only thing I can tell you is that if you get a bigger boat, 619 or any of the two above, strongly consider a 36 volt trolling motor system. Maybe the 1890 is fine with a 24 volt, but having more power at the trolling motor is better.

The 1890 and 2100 are pre-wired for 36.

From reading your post I don't think you will be thrilled with the rear deck space without the rear deck extension. The 1890 in a dual console format has very little open cockpit with the rear deck extension in. So if cockpit space is important go with the 2100. I believe the front deck on the 2100 is very similar in size to the 1890.

I have an 1890 tiller and have fished from an 1890 Dual Console. Only seen a 2100 at boat shows.
