I don't understand why this has gotten so much attention. Just because it was caught it Iowa or what?

Every lake in Minnesota that has pure strain muskies it has multiple fish of that size and or bigger......

Might have something to do with the fact that the fish weighed 47#. How many musky anglers can honestly say they've caught a 47# fish?

I'm not saying its not a nice fish. I'm just saying that its nothing to be amazed with. Its a 49inch female full of spawn. Think of all of the fish over 50inches full of spawn swimming in Minnesota lakes.... The fish swimming in Mile lacs, leech, Vermillion Minnetonka full of spawn would dwarf that thing. I just amazed with how much chatter this fish has gotten......

And not even 50. My guess is they are proud of this fish. This might put people from minna-soda into boredom but it's a big fish to the rest of us.

Post pictures of some of those Minnesota fish, and people will talk about them too.

For some reason the media/face book/outdoor forums have gotten a hold of this particular fish even though there were quite a few other females over 50" brought to the hatchery. In the last five years there have been heavier fish netted as well.

I think the really neat thing about this is the history of the fish because of the past and on going research that is being done in Iowa ( Big Spirit, East/West Okoboji, Clear, Blackhawk, Brushy Creek and Big Creek) muskies all receive PIT tags before they are stocked. With fish living up to ~25 years here in Iowa some interesting things can happen when fish have a unique identifier.

I think people are just excited about spring and getting outdoors!!!! With what's happening in the MN/WI legislatures in recent years a little positive PR for a native upper Midwest fish is a good thing!!!!!! Adios
