Posts: 253 Location: On the water | Anybody out there tried the new Diawa Lexa HD reels with the stainless gears and more bearings. I’m interested in the Lexa HD300XSL-P, 37 IPT, weight 10.8 oz. Handled one at the Musky Shop and it seemed super smooth and very light weight. Any reviews would be appreciated. Thanks Tom.

Posts: 62 Location: Northwest WI | I like Diawa reels. I own CVZ's, Luna's, and a 400 Lexa---all of which have been fished hard and served me flawlessly. I use the Lexa alot, it is a favorite reel. (I have the original model, so can't speak to the new gearing. I'd expect the same high level of performance.)

Posts: 1425 Location: St. Lawrence River | I too am curious about the Lexa HD build quality compared to the Standard Lexa. Anyone fished with both? And also, does the Lexa HD have a disengaging levelwind?

Posts: 999 | Wish I could trade my standard lexa for an H-D. The standard didn't last long.

And also, does the Lexa HD have a disengaging levelwind? It should have a disengaging levelwind. I believe they just beefed up the internals from the original. A disengaging levelwind is better if you can get away with it because it doesn't bleed energy off the cast

Posts: 523 | I looked them up yesterday and the gear ratios seem way high for actually being efficient at retrieving big blades or the like. Probably would be good for jerkbaits and twitchbaits tho.
