im in indiana so they are all 3 plus hours away. i know there is one over in columbus ohio and 2 in chicago and one in detroit that i know of that i could make a day trip out of. Minnesota is obviously out the my range but wasnt sure where in Wisconsin there might be one, if it was southern Wis then its doable

Chicago Muskie Expo is the only show in Chicagoland dedicated to muskies only. The other is multi species show and lacks it the muskie dept.

Look at the schedule, what if any of the speakers would you like to see? There is an off site huge lure swap during each sbow on Saturday night. That in itself is worth spending the night whatever show(s) you decide to attend.

You can do it in a day but my problem is its overwhelming to take it all in and always go back a second day to buy the stuff I forgot to get the first day.

Not everyone has a 7 day a week musky show minutes from they're house! Besides we throw lures in pools and tanks, hours of fun, like a baby looking at a mobile.

For the Milwaukee Expo there's usually a swap meet at one of the host hotels but I've never been. How do those work? I typically sell 10 - 15 baits each off season... can I bring those to sell?

I'd like to sell/buy/trade baits, drink a few beers, and rub shoulders with the A-listers of musky fishing. Is that what the Swap Meet is?

As a true addict who goes to at least 4 shows every winter here's my best suggestions:
1. If you are going to look at what's for sale in the booths, try to establish the "off hours" when there is the least traffic. I'd pick early Friday if you can, when the selection is at its maximum. During peak times, the traffic around the really hot stuff will keep you out, or get you crushed.
2. Try to use the show as a $10.00 tuition musky school. Get a great seat in the seminar hall and just stay there the whole weekend. Sure, some of the guys like to toot their own horn or polish the trailer hitch on their sponsors truck....but, for ten bucks a day, it's a heck of a learning experience.

Plan for over nite just for weather safety these shows are during the winter,,snow storms iced roads can move in fast and spending the nite might be safer , if they hit on the front end your trip may take twice has long and you won't see much before heading back. If they hit on a one day trip that nite your driving in unsafe conditions home. With two days you can see the show and scoot when there's a weather clear window. Going to the Chicago show from minnesota we have seen all kinds of weather and tons of cars in the ditch during storms, one milwaukee show the actual temp was 20 plus below and miserable ,If your traveling for a one day turn around you got up early and now your tired sitting in the seminars. If your not in the area of the show an over nite two day makes it so much more fun and safer.

Also every show has a designated show hotel this is where you want to stay. All the musky guys vendors, guides, attendees take over the hotel and there's usually a special show discount. after the show you hangout in the lobby and in the mourning you go to the breakfast room and eat and talk with all the musky people,,,it's a good time. But make a reservation actually now these places sell out their rooms.

I go to Chicago and Milwaukee. Chicago was much improved but between the two, Milwaukee is far better in my opinion.

I cannot say which is best. I attended the MN show this year for the first time. I thought it was well done. I know some folks don't care for the location but I saw nothing wrong with it. It can be pretty overwhelming. Some good tips were stated above. Going to the talks is a great way to get information, and learn about what is working and where. A member Sidejack on this board told me walk around the expo at least once maybe twice then make any purchases. This was great advise when I walked in it was like a black Friday scene on the news guys mauling each other for the must have. For value you cannot do better then the swap meet. I think cash is king there from what I saw. I must have spent 40 dollars and had a retail of 150+ dollars. Also I would expect most of the big time guides in the area will be at whatever show you attend. The MN shows booths were staffed by a good number of guides either at sponsors booths or working at Thorne Bros or other places. (I didn't realize it at the time since I was very new the sport but I had some of the most recognized guides helping me select my tools and tackle.) I can look at my box and say yea these things aren't the coolest lures like a dill pickle with mustard colored 2lb double dog. But everything is proven and works.

A-listers are mostly looking down on such things. Swap Meet is generally the scout team's day to shine. Guys who get nametags have their own party that night usually.

A-listers shouldn't need name tags otherwise they wouldn't be A- listers

The Milwaukee Expo is going to be at a new bigger venue this year, Feb 12-14, at the Washington County Fairgrounds, 2 exits north of Cabelas on US Hwy 45. Check out the event website for more details.

I'd vote Chicago Show...because this awesome A-lister puts on the funnest, most awesomest, swap meet on the frickin planet!!! Go for the show, stay for the swap meet, get to talk to the A-lister that runs the swap. But please approach him with beer.

The greeting line to meet slamr went all the way outside last year. 50 for an autograph, 100 for a photo op. Was lime being at a comic con.

I usually drive home from Milwaukee after the swap but the new location is less fib friendly. Debating on whether to go.
