| Looking at heading out Monday night, probably around 8 pm and fishing until 8 am. Still not sure which lake I am going to, probably either Waconia or Minnetonka. Now this is my first year night fishing and really my first year fishing this late into the year. This muskie fishing has basically replaced all my other hobbies and I plan on fishing much later into the year, probably up until deer season.
My question for anyone willing to provide input is what should I be doing this time of year at night. I keep hearing how big fish are crashing the shallows around this time of year and can be fairly easy to catch. I also am curious with the drastic temperature change (possibly 20 to 30 degree difference) from day to night this time of year do the fish turn off at night because of the temperature change or possibly move them out of the shallows that they may have been feeding in during the day? Should I vacate night fishing all together or stick with it?
Any advice is great. Late September and October I kind of get out of my comfort zone when it comes to fishing. |

Location: Otsego, MN | Fished tonka Saturday evening 7-12 midnight. Moved one fish on blades that's all.
I think we had a bad night but I'd throw big blades, big rubber, on a deep edge.
Unless the weather really changes to fall the fish and bait seemed really thick on the edges still.
Muskies will bite at night all through the fall in the metro. |

| I love to musky fish but I marginally like night fishing for me it's about fun not proving any thing with a picture and going to any extent to get one.
Regardless of fishing results just see if you like It.
If your on Tonka make sure your visible,drunks that have been swilling since the Vikings game and the sixteen year old rich kid with daddy's boat are hazards make sure your seen.

| I fish nights more often then not i catch some late season but i have done better fishing sunrise to sun set. Its not quiet cold enough yet so anything can happen like me just sitting there with my suick in the water getting blasted on top while im talking to a friend |

Location: Alex or Alek? | I've fished a few all nighters with nothing to show. A few tips is to keep a clean boat. Its tough to see lures sitting on the floor when your walking around. Also do something to help you see/know when your lure is close to the boat so you dont jam your leader into your rod tip. I've heard that putting a bobber stop above youre leader helps you "feel" when your bait is close. They also make some glow tape you can stick on your blades.
On another note I picked up a 48 and a 39 on sunday morning in the cities right at moonset/sunrise.... |

Location: Chisholm, MN | If it were me, I'd stick with it and fish pretty much the same way you do all summer. Slow role bucktails in shallow and stay on good spots. Night isn't really a time for exploring. If it's too weedy for a bucktail, throw a topwater. I've caught muskies at night through the fall and laaaate into the night. It can however be slower when the nights are cold. |

Location: Contrarian Island | night fishing can be as good or better than day fishing... I prefer night fishing 10 x to 1 over day fishing when winds are lighter, say under 10 mph...
fish the same spots you are seeing fish during the day.... they get dumber at night... 
I prefer water temps above 55ish for casting
..but as others have pointed out you can catch them in late fall at night... quite a few guys troll at night in fall and do well...

Hooker, I am a night owl. I am 31 years old and have worked nights as long as I can remember. My mother even tells me when I was a kid all I would ever do at night is roam the house. Just the way my brain is wired I guess. I just dont want you to think this post is about me posting a picture for the world to see or going to such great lengths to catch a ski by fishing at night. Besides this website this is the only social media I do. Being alone on a lake as big as Tonka and being able to fish where ever I want without boaters or any interruptions from other people is probably one of the more relaxing things I have ever done in life.
Thanks for all the advice from everyone. Ended up missing one fish on a top water. It crushed it right next to the boat and I just couldnt get the hooks in it. Had a follow right at a major period and she was a giant. I found a spot where the wind was just funneling through and kicking up some pretty decent waves. I brought the fish into the 8 and about fell over mid figure 8 from the waves. Needless to say she spooked off real quick after that. Did manage to stick two bass. So far thats 8 bass for me this year on double tens. |

I'm with you there. I am a morning person thru and thru, and really just do not like fishing at night even though my hours/fish is much better when I do so. If anything I personally like getting up at 330am and getting to the lake before daylight to do a little fishing in the dark over staying out after sunset. But that's just me
