| Generally they are measured from the nose to the tip of the tail. Pinching the tail makes little or no difference. |

First, you need a giant ego. Second it needs to bother you to see people catching fish as big and bigger than the ones you have caught. Third, if the posted picture of those fish do not appear to you to be as big as they claim, it needs to completely unravel you. Then and only then can you join the bump board posse!

The fish should have pre-printed measurements on them. That way every follow my boat partner sees isn't another "upper 40's" fish. OOOOHHHH! Maybe just a big number in a meatball sign like the old race cars. As they grow the number changes! That way you can tell at a glance!

| Best way to measure a fish is not not measure it at all. Then you can call it 51" when it's really only 48", post a picture of it on the internet and have the the musky CSI jump all over you telling you it's 45" at best. If you average the lowest estimate and your overstated length, you get a perfect measurement!

| It is simple geometry - pinching the tail will make a difference. Don't let anyone tell you any differently. Will it make a huge difference? Probably not - it depends upon how long the fish (and tail are). I have noticed that for a really large fish it can make a half an inch difference or more; however, it depends upon a lot of things: is the tail long or stubby, pliable or not (musky tails are not the most pliable), etc...
For those of you that say it doesn't make a difference - go back and take a look at a geometry book - it is simple triangle math. Sorry for the rant but to me it is like people saying the world is flat - NO IT'S NOT! There is scientific proof that the world is round. There are entire books on geometry.
If you don't want to look at the math book - cut a small piece of paper (or better yet - fabric since it is easier to bend) into a triangle. Then pin any of the pointed ends down and bend/crunch the opposite points together - it will measure differently than if you just pinned a pointed end down and measured how for it is from the tip to the base.
I am not a musky fishing expert by any means, but I do know math and geometry. |

| I'm considering starting a certification course on eyeballing fish size. I think Globe University maybe: earn your true BS in Esox Occular Accuracy. 100% job placement as size moderators on fishing furums. For those who can tell exactly what size a following fish is by mere glance within a millionth of a few inches.

That is the law here in WI Yooper.
Also, I don't care how anyone measures their fish (for catch and release purposes). That said, I do get annoyed when someone points out as fact something that is simply untrue - and easily proven to be untrue. I like to engage in discussions like anyone else, and will state my opinions on many subjects - sometimes to a fault. I like the discussions. However, there is a difference between stating something as an opinion (to be discussed and debated) and stating something as a blanket fact. If you state something as a fact - make sure it is true! |

Last time i pinched the tail I could not see out of my left eye for three days.
Here's the rest of the story:
I happened to run into Todd shortly after this happened. Two black eyes.
"Holy crap, Todd! What happened?!"
it was innocent enough....
"Well, I was sitting in church last Sunday, and you know how it is - you stand up, you sit, you stand up you sit, you stand up... So this lady in front of be stood up and I noticed that her dress was up her crack. I thought I'd be a nice guy and fix it for her. Well, wouldn't you know it, she turned around and socked me!"
So I said "Okay, Todd. But how do you explain the OTHER black eye?"
Here's where it gets good...
"Well, after that I figured she wanted it like that, so when she turned back around I decided to put it back for her."
